About INNESTO

INNESTO – Urban Weavings is a festival that transforms the historic center of Comiso, in the province of Ragusa, into a vast, widespread garden. For three days, typically in late May, the Sicilian town's squares and alleys fill with botanical installations, ephemeral gardens, educational talks, workshops, performances, and a botanical market. Dedicated to greenery, floriculture, and environmental sustainability, the event weaves together nature, culture, and science in a multidisciplinary experience that engages the entire community.

A festival that makes Comiso flourish

INNESTO – Urban Weavings is the event that, starting in late May, transforms the historic center of Comiso, in the province of Ragusa, into a vast, widespread garden. Established in 2024, the festival is dedicated to greenery, floriculture, and environmental sustainability, viewed as a shared value and an opportunity for growth for the entire community. Streets, alleys, and historic squares – from Piazza Fonte Diana to Piazza delle Erbe – are filled with flowers, plant installations, and ephemeral gardens, giving the Iblean city a new look made of colors and scents.

Five sections to weave nature and culture

The INNESTO program is organized into five major sections that coexist in the heart of the town:

  • Innesto Design: temporary gardens created by landscape architects in symbolic locations of the city;
  • Innesto Talk: conferences, meetings, and lectures dedicated to science, agriculture, the environment, and sustainability;
  • Innesto Live: concerts, performances, and DJ sets during the festival evenings;
  • Innesto Lab: creative workshops for adults and children on nature and sustainable living;
  • Innesto Market: a botanical exhibition and market featuring nurseries, artisans, and collectors from all over Italy.

Science, outreach, and special guests

One of the hallmarks of INNESTO is the quality of its cultural programming. Past editions have hosted climatologists, science communicators, agronomists, landscape architects, and food storytellers, all capable of discussing climate, biodiversity, and plant care in a language accessible to everyone. The talks, meetings, and masterclasses make the festival a reference point not only for gardening enthusiasts but also for those curious about science and ecology.

Comiso, the city of Bufalino in the Iblei mountains

Set in the hometown of writer Gesualdo Bufalino, INNESTO highlights the Baroque architectural heritage of Comiso and its connection to the agricultural landscape of the Iblean plateau. The festival, promoted by the Municipality of Comiso with local support, is an opportunity to discover one of the most evocative centers in the province of Ragusa, Sicily, while strolling through ephemeral gardens, plant markets, and live performances.
