Infiorata di Cannara per il Corpus Domini

A tradition almost two centuries old

The Infiorata di Cannara is one of the oldest Infiorate festivals in Umbria: the first was created in 1826. On the occasion of the religious solemnity of Corpus Domini, the streets and squares of the historic center of Cannara, in the province of Perugia, are transformed into a large carpet of flowers, the result of the patient and collective work of the master flower-layers and the entire community.

Almost 2,000 meters of floral carpets

Along a route of almost 2,000 meters, the carpets are composed of depictions mainly with a sacred theme, reproductions of famous works of art, or geometric patterns. At the end of their creation, the solemn Eucharistic celebration takes place in the morning in the Church of San Matteo, followed by the Corpus Domini procession with the exposition of the Most Holy Sacrament, which winds through the streets of the historic center, treading on the petals, and returns to the church.

An experience for the five senses

In recent years, the event has also offered an experiential path, the Infiorata Experience, designed to engage visitors through the five senses: hearing with the sounds of nature in the photographic exhibition «L'emozione della fioritura» (The Emotion of Blooming), touch with participation in the creation of the carpets, sight with the colors of the flowers and the painting exhibition, taste and smell with the tasting moments of «Pasta in fiore» (Pasta in Bloom). An opportunity to experience one of the most evocative traditions of the Cannara territory from the inside.
