The great exhibition of Michelangelo Pistoletto at Rocca Maggiore in Assisi
With 'Franciscus. Fratello in Arte', the evocative Rocca Maggiore in Assisi (Province of Perugia) becomes the setting for a major exhibition dedicated to Michelangelo Pistoletto, one of the protagonists of Arte Povera and among the most influential masters of contemporary world art. The exhibition dialogues the artist's language with the places and the message of Saint Francis.
The exhibition explores the relationship between art, spirituality, and social responsibility, presenting significant works from Pistoletto's career. At the centre of the exhibition is the artist's declaration proclaiming Saint Francis the 'First Saint of Art', an artistic gesture that recognises in the Poor Man the one who transformed 'life into work and spirituality into shared responsibility'.
'Franciscus. Fratello in Arte' inaugurates the Assisi Estate 2026 programme (April-October), the rich calendar of events celebrating the 8th Centenary of the death of Saint Francis. The exhibition is produced by the Municipality of Assisi with Opera Laboratori, in collaboration with Cittadellarte and Galleria Continua, and aims to be one of the most significant cultural events of the entire Franciscan year.
The exhibition 'Franciscus. Fratello in Arte' takes place from April 24 to October 4, 2026 at the Rocca Maggiore in Assisi. Curated around the figure of Saint Francis proclaimed 'First Saint of Art' by Pistoletto, it presents significant works from the artist's career in dialogue with Franciscan spirituality.
