The theatre season at the Teatro San Carlo in Casalborgone
Il Teatro Ritrovato is the live performance festival held at the Teatro San Carlo in Casalborgone, a hilltop village in the Chivasso area of the Province of Turin, in the heart of Piedmont. Created to bring consistent theatrical programming to a small town, the festival has become a highly anticipated event spanning from winter through spring, running from January to the final concert in May.
The artistic direction is entrusted to Faber Teater, a company based right here in Casalborgone, while the co-organization involves the Municipality of Casalborgone and Piemonte dal Vivo as part of the regional Corto Circuito project, which brings professional shows to small local theatres. It is a formula that blends artistic quality with deep local roots.
The deliberately intimate program weaves together different languages: spoken and social theatre, classical comedy, contemporary dance, family theatre, and singer-songwriter music. Each evening becomes an opportunity to address contemporary themes through diverse perspectives.
A hallmark of the festival is the convivial moment that follows every performance: an opportunity to meet the artists, engage in discussion, and extend the theatrical experience through social interaction. Alongside the shows, workshops and side activities open to the public are occasionally organized, making the theatre a true cultural hub for the village.
The heart of the festival is the historic Teatro San Carlo, located in Piazza Carlo Bruna in Casalborgone, while some events take place in other local spaces, such as the Leu in the historic center, chosen for the final outdoor concert. The intimate size of the venues allows for a close connection between the audience and the stage, a rarity in large cities.
For those living in the Turin area or wishing to discover the hills along the Po, Il Teatro Ritrovato is a chance to experience high-level productions in an authentic setting, just a few kilometers from the regional capital. It is a season that proves even a small Piedmontese town can offer a curated, accessible cultural program capable of fostering community.
The 2026 edition of Il Teatro Ritrovato, the ninth, took place from January to May at the Teatro San Carlo in Casalborgone, under the artistic direction of Faber Teater and co-organized by the municipality and Piemonte dal Vivo as part of the Corto Circuito project. Six shows alternated between different artistic styles, each followed by a social gathering with the artists.
Highlights included the classical comedy Pluto by Aristophanes, performed by the Tuscan company I Sacchi di Sabbia, the contemporary dance solo R.OSA featuring Claudia Marsicano and directed by Silvia Gribaudi, and the play Teresa ovvero la sarta che voleva ricucire il firmamento with Patrizia Camatel, directed by Antonio Catalano. The season concluded on May 9th with the Terra Madre concert by the Beppe Gambetta Trio, hosted outdoors at the Leu in the village's historic center.
Casalborgone is located in the hills above the Po river, in the Province of Turin. By car, it can be reached from Chivasso or Turin via the hilly roads; the Teatro San Carlo is in Piazza Carlo Bruna, in the center of the village. The most convenient train station is Chivasso, on the Turin-Milan line, from where you can continue by car.
