Helmut Newton's automotive photographs in the gardens of Villa Olmo
Helmut Newton. Cars is the first exhibition entirely dedicated to the relationship between the great German photographer Helmut Newton and the automobile. Set up in the gardens of Villa Olmo, in Como, the exhibition features twenty large-format photographs in which the car is not a simple background, but becomes a pure design object and the absolute protagonist of the composition.
The works on display, created between 1956 and 2001, span a large part of Newton's career and show his unmistakable eye applied to the world of engines. The exhibition also represents an ideal return of the photographer to Lake Como, where Newton worked intensively from the 1970s onwards.
Curated by Matthias Harder and organized by the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin with the Larusmiani brand and the patronage of the Municipality of Como, the exhibition is set up outdoors in the park of Villa Olmo and can be visited free of charge during the garden's opening hours. A formula that makes it accessible to everyone and an integral part of the Lake Como landscape.
The exhibition is part of a weekend that makes Como, in Lombardy, the capital of automotive culture, in conjunction with FuoriConcorso and the Concorso d'Eleganza di Villa d'Este. An opportunity to combine art, photography, and passion for engines in one of Italy's most evocative settings.
