The French horn takes center stage amidst the historic churches and trails of the Lepini Mountains

The "Guelfo Nalli" International Horn Players Meeting is one of the most significant events in the cultural calendar of Supino, a village in the Lepini Mountains in the province of Frosinone, Lazio. Every summer, in the first half of August, the festival attracts professional horn players from the Italian and international music scene, united by their passion for one of the orchestra's most fascinating and challenging instruments. Horn ensembles, fanfares, and pieces from the great repertoire—from classical transcriptions to Copland's famous Fanfare for the Common Man—transform Supino into a small capital of the horn for a few days.
The festival is dedicated to the memory of Guelfo Nalli (Supino, 1938 – City Bell, La Plata, 1995), considered one of the greatest horn players of the 20th century. Having emigrated to Argentina at a very young age, he studied with Antonio Iervolino at the La Plata Conservatory, served as principal horn of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic and the Teatro Colón orchestra, founded the famous Camerata Bariloche chamber orchestra in 1969, and in 1974 became the principal solo horn of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra in Turin. In the summer of 2014, the Municipality of Supino named a small square in the historic center after him, sealing an unbroken bond with his hometown.
It was Nalli himself, together with his colleague and friend Angelo Agostini, who conceived and launched the first International Horn Players Meeting in Supino in 1990. After the founder's passing, the event continued under the artistic direction of Agostini, surpassing thirty editions and becoming a benchmark for the horn community: an opportunity for meeting, exchange, and ensemble music rather than just a simple concert season.
A distinctive feature of the Meeting is the care taken in choosing locations. Concerts have been held in the most beautiful sacred spaces of the village, such as the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore and the Church of San Pietro, but also in surprising natural settings, such as the mountain road connecting the village to Santa Serena: the warm, enveloping sound of the horn, an instrument born for wide-open spaces, thus dialogues with the stone of the naves and the forests of the Lepini Mountains.
The Meeting is part of the rich Supino 360° summer program, promoted by the Municipality of Supino between July and September, alongside the festivities for the patron saint San Lorenzo, cinema under the stars, and local neighborhood initiatives. For those visiting the Ciociaria region in August, the festival is an opportunity to discover an authentic village in the province of Frosinone, amidst medieval alleys, popular traditions, and a surprising musical vocation that the Lazio Region counts among its cultural excellences.
The "Guelfo Nalli" International Horn Players Meeting is featured in the official Supino 360° calendar for summer 2026, in the month of August; the exact date and concert program will be announced by the organizers on the official channels of the event and the Municipality.
In the summer of 2026, Supino renews its appointment with the horn: the "Guelfo Nalli" International Horn Players Meeting is included in the official Supino 360° program of the Municipality, in the month of August, alongside the patronal festivities of San Lorenzo and other events of the Supino summer.
Under the artistic direction of Angelo Agostini, co-founder of the festival together with Guelfo Nalli in 1990, the 2026 edition will gather, as usual, professional horn performers from Italy and abroad, featuring ensemble music, fanfares, and pieces from the great repertoire. The concerts will be held in the landmark locations of the event, from the churches of Santa Maria Maggiore and San Pietro to the natural landscapes of the Lepini territory.
The exact date and detailed program have not yet been released: official announcements will arrive on the channels of the festival and the Municipality of Supino in the weeks preceding the event.
