A hill climb race in the Apennine Lazio
The Guarcino-Campocatino is one of the most anticipated motorsport events in the Lazio calendar. It takes place in Guarcino, a town in the province of Frosinone, along the Regional Road 411 that climbs from the village to the mountain station of Campocatino, in the heart of the Ernici Mountains. The format is the classic hill climb: cars start one by one at regular intervals, tackling the course solo against the clock, with two race heats held on Sunday morning.
The track
The timed section measures approximately 7 kilometers. Starting at an altitude of 1,251 meters above sea level, the finish line is reached at 1,695 meters, for a total elevation gain of 444 meters. The track is considered technical and complete: tight hairpins, fast sweeping sections, and blind corners that require course knowledge more than raw power. The road surface and the panoramic views over the Campocatino basin make this climb one of the most evocative in Central Italy.
Sporting status
The event holds significant national importance. The 2026 edition served as the third round of the Italian Historic Hill Climb Championship (CIVSA) and the Italian Classic Hill Climb Championship (CIVSAC), in addition to being valid for the CentrItalia Hillclimb Cup, a series also open to modern vehicles. This dual nature is one of the event's most appreciated features: the same road hosts a mix of 1970s prototypes, vintage racing sedans, and single-seaters, with a starting grid that has stabilized at between sixty and seventy registered cars in recent years.
A revived tradition
The route follows the historic track known as the "10 Miglia," which hosted car races decades ago. After a long hiatus, the race was brought back to life in 2021 through the initiative of the A.S.D. Scuola Guida Sicura of Frosinone, in collaboration with the Automobile Club Frosinone. Since then, it has become an annual fixture for historic motorsport enthusiasts in Central Italy.
The Luigi Marignani Memorial
Alongside the timed race, the "Luigi Marignani Memorial" Sports Parade takes place, dedicated to the memory of Cavaliere Luigi Marignani, a key figure in the local Ciociaria motorsport scene. It is a non-competitive parade reserved for cars and motorcycles of particular historical and technological interest: no clocks, no rankings, just the opportunity to drive the climb and be admired by the public along the road.
Atmosphere and public
- Paddock in Campocatino: Large equipped areas where the public can get close to the cars and teams during service operations.
- Viewing points: The hairpin bends along the SR 411 offer numerous panoramic spots, marked and monitored by security personnel.
- Services: Refreshments in the paddock area and a giant screen to follow the heats; hotels and restaurants in the mountain station remain open throughout the weekend.
- Streaming: The heats are broadcast live on the Mattiperlecorse channel.
Guarcino and the Ernici Mountains
Guarcino is a medieval village nestled on the southern slopes of the Ernici Mountains, known for its spring waters and typical biscuits, the "amaretti di Guarcino." Campocatino, its high-altitude hamlet, is one of the most popular ski resorts in Lazio: in winter it thrives on snow, in summer on hiking, and for one weekend in June, on engines. Attending the hill climb is therefore also a great excuse to discover a corner of the Ciociaria region rarely touched by mass tourism.

Guarcino-Campocatino 2026
Three days of racing in the town of Guarcino, in the province of Frosinone, from June 5th to 7th, 2026. The organization was handled by the Scuola Guida Sicura of Frosinone with the collaboration of ACI Frosinone. There were 68 entrants, a high-quality starting field for a race that arrived at mid-season with the championship title still wide open.
The race was valid as the third round of the CIVSA (historic cars) and the CIVSAC (classic cars), as well as the first round of the CentrItalia Hillclimb Cup, also reserved for modern vehicles. The regulations allowed for double registration, ensuring that Cup competitors were not excluded from the Italian championship standings.
Race results
The best overall time among historic cars was set by Antonio Lavieri in a Lucchini SN 85 with an Alfa Romeo engine, in the 4th Group: 4'00"75 in the first heat and 3'53"83 in the second. Tiberio Nocentini, in a Chevron B19 Cosworth, won the 1st Group, confirming his status as one of the season's protagonists. In the modern historic car category, the Ragusa-based driver Giovanni Cassibba took the win with his Osella PA 20/S BMW.

How to get there
By car: A1 Rome-Naples motorway, take the Anagni-Fiuggi exit, then follow the SR 155 and SS 214 to Guarcino (approx. 30 km). From Frosinone, Guarcino can be reached in about 30 minutes. The road section between Guarcino and Campocatino remains closed to traffic during practice and race phases: those wishing to reach the paddock must arrive before the closure times indicated by the organizers.
By train
Frosinone station on the Rome-Cassino line, then local bus connections or rental car; the station is not served by direct public transport to Campocatino on race days.
Admission
Public access to permitted areas along the route and the paddock area is free. It is mandatory to respect restricted zones and the instructions of the track marshals: spectator safety depends on strict adherence to the delineated areas.
Where to stay
Accommodation is available in Campocatino and Guarcino; the Eden Hotel Ristorante, located along the race route, serves as the reference facility for the organization. Given the concentration of teams and fans, it is advisable to book well in advance.
