The first Italian anthology dedicated to the painter Grigory Gluckmann, at the Regional Archaeological Museum of Aosta
The Regional Archaeological Museum of Aosta, in Piazza Roncas, hosts from February 28 to June 2, 2026, the exhibition Grigory Gluckmann. Between Light and Grace, the first anthology exhibition dedicated to this artist in Italy. The exhibition, curated by Valeria Gorbova and Daria Jorioz, brings together 35 paintings and is part of the museum's research into the great figures of art between the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Born in Polotsk, then in the Russian Empire, in 1898, Gluckmann studied at the Moscow Academy during the years of the October Revolution. Leaving Russia, he reached Berlin in 1920 and then Italy in 1924, where in Florence he studied Renaissance painting; he then lived in Paris between the wars and finally moved to the United States during World War II. His art blends the technique of the Italian Renaissance with the late 19th-century French aesthetic and a modern sensibility, in lyrical and sometimes almost incorporeal compositions.
The exhibition path is divided into five sections that present the artist's favorite themes:
At the center of his research is the female figure: ethereal creatures of the past and characters of refined psychological complexity, both archetypal and real, immersed in suggested interiors.
The exhibition is promoted by the Autonomous Region of Aosta Valley, in collaboration with the Morus Foundation, with production by CP Contemporanea Progetti and EXPONA. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog published by Mandragora. For Aosta and the entire Region, it is an opportunity to bring to light an unjustly overlooked cosmopolitan artist, in a suggestive dialogue between the halls of the Archaeological Museum and his works.
The 2026 edition of the exhibition Grigory Gluckmann. Between Light and Grace opens to the public on February 28, after the inauguration on February 27 at 6 pm, and continues until June 2 in the halls of the Regional Archaeological Museum of Aosta. The exhibition presents 35 paintings by the American painter of Belarusian origin, divided into five thematic sections: Cafés and Interiors, Childhood, Dance, Echoes of the Classical, and Fragments of Life. The curation is by Valeria Gorbova and Daria Jorioz, with a catalog by Mandragora.
