The new traditional music of the world between Aosta and Fénis
Etétrad is the International Festival of New Traditional Music of the Aosta Valley: five days of concerts, dances, and workshops that transform Aosta and the village of Fénis into a crossroads of European musical traditions. The festival celebrates folk music reinterpreted in a contemporary key, where accordions, hurdy-gurdies, bagpipes, and violins dialogue with new sounds.
The festival has embarked on a three-year narrative journey that links its editions to Mont Blanc and the territories that share its cultural and ethnomusicological dynamics: France, Switzerland, and finally Italy. After focusing on France, the 2026 edition will center on productions from Switzerland, promoting exchange between cross-border Alpine cultures.
Etétrad is a total experience: alongside evening concerts, there are workshops for ensemble music, singing, and dancing, areas dedicated to children, food and wine presentations of Aosta Valley products, and an exhibition on traditional lutherie, showcasing the artisanal construction of instruments from yesterday and today. It is possible to stay in tents in the camping area set up near the festival.
After the opening evening in Aosta, the festival moves to Fénis, famous for its medieval castle, one of the most picturesque in the Aosta Valley. The village setting enhances the festival's atmosphere, with folk dances in the squares and concerts under the castle walls.
The 2026 edition of Etétrad, the 28th, will be held from August 25 to 29. The opening evening will be in Aosta on August 25, while from August 26 to 29 the festival will focus on Fénis. This year's theme is dedicated to Swiss productions, the second stage of the three-year journey (2025-2027) linking the festival to the Mont Blanc territories. In addition to concerts, there will be workshops for music, singing, and dancing, children's activities, food and wine moments, and an exhibition on traditional lutherie.
Among the names on the official poster for the 2026 edition: Beat Bouet Trio, Blowzabella, La Fanfare du Loup, Orchestre Alpestre, Panighiröl, Violons Volants, and numerous other musicians linked to European folk traditions. The complete program with times and venues is published on the official festival website.
Aosta is reachable via the A5 Turin-Aosta motorway and by train. Fénis is about 15 km from the regional capital, along the SS 26 state road. A tent camping area is available near the venue during the festival.
