The flower and plant market exhibition that turns Piazza Matteotti into a garden
Greve in Fiore is one of the most cherished horticultural events in the Florentine Chianti area. Every spring, the central Piazza Matteotti in Greve in Chianti, in the province of Florence, turns into a massive temporary garden where greenery takes center stage: colorful stalls and stands fill the square with floral varieties, seasonal blooms, indoor and outdoor plants, fruit trees, shrubs, succulents, herbs, and arrangements, along with everything needed for gardening.
The market exhibition is organized by the Municipality of Greve in Chianti in collaboration with the Tuscan Horticultural Society of Florence and has become a staple of the Tuscan spring calendar. Established in the 1970s, the event has spanned dozens of editions while keeping its spirit intact: bringing a passion for flowers, plants, and greenery to the heart of the Chianti village, set against one of the most picturesque backdrops in Tuscany.
For two days, the square welcomes nurserymen, artisans, and producers offering roses, succulents, medicinal plants, and garden accessories. The curated, fragrant display attracts enthusiasts, curious visitors, and families who take the opportunity to buy plants, receive expert advice, and stroll through colors and scents in the historic center of Greve.
Alongside the market, the program offers side events for all ages: gardening workshops with expert tips, activities for children focused on nature and vegetable gardens, live music, and an art exhibition inspired by flowers and the local area held in the town hall atrium. It is a perfect occasion to combine a botanical passion with the discovery of the village and local traditions.
Visiting Greve in Fiore also means discovering Greve in Chianti and its famous territory, the land of the Black Rooster and Chianti Classico wine. The triangular square with its porticos, the market, and the festive atmosphere make the event an experience that goes beyond a simple market exhibition, immersed in the rolling hills of Tuscany.
The 2026 edition celebrated the 50th anniversary of the market exhibition. Piazza Matteotti hosted about twenty exhibitors from all over Tuscany with roses, succulents, medicinal plants, seasonal flowers, and garden accessories, from 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM on Saturday and Sunday.
Among the initiatives on the calendar: the "Gardener's Advice" workshop on plant care (Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 AM), children's workshops dedicated to "Ortolandia" and the world of nature, and a live concert by La Nuova Pippolese on Saturday afternoon. On Saturday, the milestone of the fiftieth anniversary was also celebrated with a commemorative cake.
The collective exhibition "Arte in Fiore" was set up in the town hall atrium, an artistic journey inspired by flowers, nature, and the beauty of the territory, which could be visited for free.
Mid-May, Saturday and Sunday, open continuously from 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM.
