The Green Festival is a major widespread event that celebrates urban greenery every spring in Turin and numerous municipalities across the metropolitan area. The Municipality of Chieri, in the province of Turin, participates with a rich program of events that weaves together culture, environment, and textile tradition, contributing to a regional calendar that involves dozens of locations throughout the Piedmont region.

The Theme: Urban Symbiosis

The 2026 edition revolves around the theme "Urban Symbiosis: Water and Roots", which focuses on the dialogue between natural elements and the built environment. In Chieri, this central theme translates into meetings, performances, readings, and workshops designed for all ages, from primary schools to adults, with a special focus on wetland biodiversity and the value of trees in the city.

The Textile Botanical Garden

The most anticipated moment is the opening of the Textile Botanical Garden, set in the 15th-century cloister of the former Santa Chiara convent, home to the Textile Museum. It is the first botanical garden of its kind in Piedmont and features two main sections: one dedicated to fiber plants (flax, cotton, hemp, nettle, broom) and the other, larger section, to dye plants (woad, persicaria, elderberry, indigo), from which colors for the textile industry have been extracted for centuries. The guided tours, within the "Green Unveiled" section, take visitors on a journey to discover nature "to be worn".

A Widespread Program

In addition to the Textile Museum, the festival enlivens numerous places in the city:

• Francone Civic Library with "Green Pages", an exhibition of books on landscape and the plant world;
• PATCH Park and the Textile Park, with tours, wooden games, and workshops for children;
• Piazza Pellico and local schools, with animated readings and peer education workshops;
• Turriglie Woods, with guided excursions to discover the local area.

Closing the Chieri event is the roundtable "Nature and City: A Relationship to Cultivate", a discussion between experts, architects, and landscape designers on the future of urban greenery.
