The grand masked parade through the streets of the spa town, from the Market to Piazza Berzieri
The Gran Carnevale di Salsomaggiore is the most colourful and festive event of the winter in the centre of Salsomaggiore Terme, an elegant spa town in the Province of Parma, in Emilia-Romagna. For an afternoon, the town's Liberty-style streets and squares transform into a large open-air stage, where costumes, music, and cheer involve residents and visitors of all ages.
More than just a simple float parade, the Gran Carnevale is a true community celebration: families, groups, and local associations are invited to parade with themed costumes, original creations, and imaginative disguises. Alongside costumed people, you can see creatively decorated bicycles, carts, and scooters, in a tried-and-tested format that prioritizes participation and creativity over professional spectacle.
The parade winds through the historic centre of Salsomaggiore, one of Italy's most famous spa towns, renowned for its saline-bromine-iodine waters and its splendid Liberty and Art Deco buildings. The procession travels through the town's main streets accompanied by music, providing an elegant and evocative backdrop to a popular and family-friendly event.
Amidst confetti, streamers, and plenty of music, the Gran Carnevale attracts guests and entertainers who liven up the atmosphere along the route. The day concludes with a celebration in the central Piazza Berzieri, in front of the historic thermal spa building, with music and fun for everyone. The event is organised by Confesercenti Salsomaggiore, with the support of the Lyons Club and the patronage of the Municipality of Salsomaggiore Terme.
The Gran Carnevale di Salsomaggiore Terme returned on Sunday, February 15, 2026, starting at 3:00 PM. The grand masked parade kicked off from the Market in Via Pascoli and wound its way through the town's streets, accompanied by music.
This edition revived the tried-and-tested festival format, featuring the legendary Dioni brothers, numerous guests, and an open invitation to local groups and associations to participate with themed costumes, original creations, and imaginative disguises. There was also space for creatively decorated bicycles, carts, and scooters.
The procession concluded in the scenic Piazza Berzieri, with music and fun for all ages. The event was organised by Confesercenti Salsomaggiore, with the support of the Lyons Club and the patronage of the Municipality.
Salsomaggiore Terme can be reached by car from the A1 motorway (Fidenza-Salsomaggiore exit) and by train to Salsomaggiore Terme station, connected to Fidenza and Parma. The historic centre, where the parade takes place, is easily walkable.
Admission to the event is free.
The event takes place outdoors in mid-winter: warm clothing is recommended. Masks and costumes are welcome, especially for children. For information, you can contact the Municipality of Salsomaggiore Terme at 0524 580222.
