The children's carnival along Corso Italia, featuring a Disney Parade, a miniature train, and confetti fun
The Great Carnival Festival is one of the most anticipated winter events in Castiglion Fiorentino, a medieval town in the Province of Arezzo, Tuscany. For a few afternoons, the elegant Corso Italia, the main artery of the historic center running between Porta Fiorentina and the Town Hall Square, fills with costumes, music, confetti, and laughter, becoming the undisputed kingdom for children and families.
Unlike the large allegorical carnivals of Tuscany, there are no monumental floats here: the heart of the festival is street entertainment and fun for the youth. The most beloved moment is the Disney Parade, with Minnie and Mickey Mouse, Daisy and Donald Duck, Pluto, and many other cartoon characters walking among the public, posing for photos, and entertaining children along the entire Corso.
The Boscatello miniature train is a must-see, provided by the local club of the same name, which takes children on a tour of the historic center: a small rail adventure that attracts long lines of joyful children every year. To complete the afternoon, there are shows, games, music, and plenty of entertainment for all ages.
The grand finale is the Scoriandolata, the massive shower of confetti and streamers held at Porta Fiorentina: a collective ritual that closes the day in an explosion of color and has become the symbol of the Castiglion Fiorentino Carnival. It is the moment when families, children, and masked revelers gather together to bid farewell to the festival.
The Great Carnival Festival is born from the collaboration between the Municipality of Castiglion Fiorentino, the Pro Loco, and the Natural Shopping Center, with the goal of enlivening the historic center, supporting local businesses, and creating a meeting point for families. Admission is free, and all you need is a mask to dive into the festive spirit of Shrove Tuesday and the last day of Carnival.
Taking advantage of the Carnival is also the perfect opportunity to visit one of the most charming villages in the Arezzo Valdichiana: the medieval Cassero, the Vasari Loggia, the churches, and the views over the Tuscan hills make Castiglion Fiorentino a fascinating destination in every season, and even more so when the historic center dresses up for the party.
The 2026 Great Carnival Festival in Castiglion Fiorentino was held over two days, both starting at 3:30 PM along Corso Italia.
The first event, Tuesday, February 17 (Shrove Tuesday), brought the historic center to life with the Disney Parade — Minnie and Mickey, Donald Duck, Pluto, and other cartoon characters — the Boscatello miniature train for the little ones, and plenty of entertainment and shows for everyone.
The second event, Wednesday, March 4 (the last day of Carnival), featured the children's party again with costumes, shows, the Disney Parade, and the train, concluding at 5:00 PM with the grand Scoriandolata at Porta Fiorentina. The free festival was organized by the Municipality in collaboration with the Pro Loco and the Natural Shopping Center.
By car: from the A1 motorway, take the Monte San Savino or Valdichiana exit, then follow the signs for Castiglion Fiorentino. By train: the Castiglion Fiorentino station is on the Florence-Rome line (slow line), just a few minutes' walk from the historic center.
Activities are concentrated along Corso Italia, in the historic center, between Porta Fiorentina and the Town Hall Square. The final Scoriandolata is held at Porta Fiorentina.
During the festival, Corso Italia will be closed to traffic (from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM) with parking bans in nearby squares; there will be brief traffic suspensions on the SR71 and SP40 for the passage of the train. It is recommended to park in areas outside the historic center.
Admission is free.
