The historic harvest festival in the wine-growing village of Valdera
The Grape and Wine Festival is an event that, for over half a century, has captured the soul of Terricciola, a small municipality in the Province of Pisa nestled in the hills of the Valdera region, Tuscany. Known as the "village of cellars," Terricciola hides a dense network of caves carved into the tuff rock beneath its surfaceโancient cellars where wine has been aged and preserved for generations. The festival is built around this heritage, celebrating the grape harvest and local wines while embracing art and culture.
During the event, the Via Roma Town Park becomes the nerve center of the festivities. This is where you will find the Farmer's Restaurant, tasting stands, and most of the musical and cultural program. The cuisine highlights traditional Tuscan peasant cooking: classic appetizers, first courses like vegetable lasagna and the signature grape risotto, meat dishes such as roast and grape-infused bites, all finished with cantucci biscuits and Vin Santo paired with fresh grapes.
The common thread, naturally, is wine. Throughout the village streets and festival areas, visitors can sample labels from Terricciola's producers, often paired with typical Valdera products. The historic cellars carved into the tuff occasionally open their doors, offering visitors a journey into local winemaking traditions. The experience is rounded out by craft markets that bring the historic center to life.
The program alternates gastronomic moments with concerts and performances: tribute bands, DJ sets for younger crowds, vintage car rallies, and children's entertainment fill the evenings. One of the most popular additions in recent years is the Dialoghi in Borgo series, organized in collaboration with the newspaper Il Tirreno, which brings big names from journalism, television, and show business to Terricciola for public talks in the Town Park.
Reaching its 60th edition in 2026, the Grape and Wine Festival is now a defining event for Terricciola and the entire Valdera area. For the Municipality of Terricciola, it represents the highlight of a long summer calendar built around the local territory, its villages, and community participation. It is a perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Tuscany, far from the most crowded tourist circuits, where wine truly takes center stage.
In 2026, the Grape and Wine Festival of Terricciola reaches the milestone of its 60th edition, scheduled for Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6. The event closes the long summer calendar of the Valdera village on a high note, with the usual heart of the festivities located in the Via Roma Town Park.
The Dialoghi in Borgo series, created with the newspaper Il Tirreno, is also confirmed for this year, with meetings scheduled for September 5, 6, and 26 dedicated to journalism, television, and current affairs. The detailed program of tastings, the Farmer's Restaurant, markets, live music, and shows will be published by the Municipality of Terricciola in the weeks preceding the festival.
