Buggio's ancient soup celebrates in the hinterland of Pigna
In Buggio, a hamlet of the municipality of Pigna in the hinterland of Imperia, the Festa del Gran Pistau celebrates one of the most iconic dishes of the Val Nervia: 'gran pistau', a typical soup of cereals and legumes, an example of the simple, poor mountain cuisine that has fed the communities of the Ligurian Alps for generations.
The festival, traditionally linked to the wheat harvest, takes place on an August evening starting at 7 PM. The gastronomic evening, with the serving of 'gran pistau' and other local dishes, continues with music and dancing in the heart of the village.
Buggio is one of the most charming villages in the Pigna area, within the Ligurian Alps Regional Natural Park. The festival is an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Ligurian hinterland, far from coastal tourism, where gastronomic traditions are preserved intact.
For 2026, the Gran Pistau Festival in Buggio is included in the Authentic Ligurian Events calendar with the date August 6. The evening, starting at 7 PM, offers the serving of 'gran pistau' and traditional local dishes, followed by music and dancing in the village. The detailed program will be announced by the Municipality of Pigna and the organizers closer to the event.
By car: from Ventimiglia, take the Val Nervia along the SP64 to Pigna, then continue towards the hamlet of Buggio. Mountain roads, parking near the village.
