The great Monferrato food and wine festival makes a stop among the vineyards and castle of Montemagno
Golosaria Monferrato is one of Piedmont's most beloved food and wine events: a widespread, traveling festival that transforms dozens of towns in the hills between the Asti and Alessandria areas into a grand tasting trail over the course of a weekend. Conceived and curated by Paolo Massobrio and the ilGolosario team, the event connects castles, wineries, historic parks, Pro Loco associations, and local producers under one great celebration dedicated to food, wine, art, and the landscape.
The town of Montemagno Monferrato, in the province of Asti, is one of the most picturesque stops on the calendar. Nestled among the villages of the route that crosses the heart of the Asti Monferrato, Montemagno welcomes visitors with its hilltop profile, the dramatic Baroque staircase, and the castle that dominates the village and the surrounding hills, which are declared a UNESCO World Heritage site along with the vineyard landscapes of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato.
The Montemagno stop revolves around a few iconic landmarks, all easily reachable on foot within the village and its immediate surroundings:
The territory of Montemagno and neighboring towns is particularly linked to Ruchè, a rare and precious native grape variety that creates one of the most distinctive red wines of the Asti Monferrato. During Golosaria, wineries and producer associations offer guided tastings, while the Pro Loco associations enliven the village with traditional dishes: from local cured meats and cheeses to baked specialties and traditional desserts.
A dense program of cultural initiatives develops around the tastings: art exhibitions, book presentations, workshops for children, information points on the history of the town, and walks among the rows of vines. This is the hallmark of Golosaria, which in Montemagno, as in the other villages of Monferrato, weaves together gastronomy, art, and landscape discovery.
The Montemagno stop is part of a large mosaic: every year, Golosaria Monferrato involves dozens of towns, castles, and historic parks, with the Castle of Casale Monferrato serving as the headquarters for exhibitors, street food, and the "Barbera & Champagne" format. Choosing Montemagno means experiencing the most intimate and hilly version of the event, immersed in the vineyards of the province of Asti, in the heart of Piedmont's food and wine scene.
For the twentieth anniversary edition, Golosaria Monferrato enlivened the weekend of May 16 and 17, 2026, with over forty municipalities in the provinces of Asti and Alessandria, featuring castles, historic parks, markets, lunches and dinners in the square, exhibitions, and nature walks. The Castle of Casale Monferrato served as the headquarters, with ilGolosario exhibitors, street food, and the "Barbera & Champagne" format.
In Montemagno Monferrato, the stop offered a rich and free program in the village and at Tenuta Montemagno, featuring art, books, and local products.
Montemagno Monferrato is located in the province of Asti, in the heart of Monferrato. By car, it can be reached from the A21 Turin-Piacenza motorway (Asti Est or Felizzano exits) and via the provincial roads connecting Asti and Casale Monferrato. The nearest train station is in Asti, from where you can continue by car.
The event takes place over the weekend during daytime hours (generally from 10:00 to 18:00). Access to the village and exhibitions is free; tastings in the wineries and food and wine trails may require a fee or reservation. Reservations are recommended for visits and tastings at Tenuta Montemagno.
Wear comfortable shoes to move between the village and the vineyards and check the official website for the updated program of the Montemagno stop and the other towns on the itinerary.
