A day dedicated to handmade crafts in a thousand-year-old castle, part of the Golosaria tra i Castelli del Monferrato festival
In Frassinello Monferrato, a small hilltop village in the province of Alessandria, the Castello di Frassinello becomes a showcase for local craftsmanship and creativity for one day. The event, titled "Artigianato a Corte: Local Excellence at Castello di Frassinello," is dedicated to the handmade and serves as a key stop on the Golosaria tra i Castelli del Monferrato trail, a widespread festival that lights up the UNESCO-listed hills every May.
Golosaria tra i Castelli del Monferrato is a grand celebration of taste and culture conceived by journalist Paolo Massobrio and the Club Papillon. Over two days, more than forty villages across the provinces of Alessandria and Asti open their castles, wine cellars, squares, and courtyards for local wine tastings (especially Barbera), street food, markets, theatrical performances, and walks or bike rides through the vineyards. Frassinello joins this mosaic with its focus on excellent craftsmanship.
The event is hosted in a thousand-year-old residence linked to the historic House of Nemours. Beyond the halls housing the exhibitors, the castle features a charming Italian-style garden carved into the tufa rock, home to a centuries-old mulberry tree and over three hundred rose bushes—the perfect backdrop for a stroll among the artisans' creations.
The day highlights local businesses that value manual skill. Featured exhibitors include Nani Ceramiche, with their "art of the earth turned into design," and Cose Belline di Savio Bruno, showcasing unique objects and stylish details. It is an event designed for those who appreciate unique items, artisanal design, and handmade products.
Frassinello Monferrato and its castle are among the many gems of the Monferrato region that open their doors during Golosaria, offering visitors a journey through art, taste, and landscape. A stop in Frassinello is the perfect way to combine a discovery of fine crafts with a day spent in the hills of Piedmont.
