The flower market that kicks off the season under the arcades of Glorenza
The Flower and Gardening Market (in German Blumen- und Gartenmarkt) is the first event of the Glurnser Laubenmärkte season, the themed markets that animate the historic arcades of Glorenza (Glurns) in the Vinschgau Valley, Autonomous Province of Bolzano, every year from May to October. The municipality of Glorenza is the smallest city in South Tyrol and one of the most beautiful villages in Italy: its intact medieval walls, with gate towers commissioned by Emperor Maximilian I, form the only completely preserved town wall in the Alps.
Under the arches of the Lauben (the arcades of the main street), nurseries, shops, and passionate exhibitors offer a rich assortment designed for the start of the warm season:
It is the ideal opportunity for those looking to prepare their garden, balcony, or vegetable patch after the alpine winter, choosing from the offerings of local floriculturists and producers.
The setting is the unmistakable one of the medieval town of Glorenza: cobblestone alleys, frescoed arcades, and the quiet of a village with just over nine hundred inhabitants. During the day, street music by music school students accompanies the stroll through the stalls, while entertainment designed for children makes the market family-friendly. The restaurants and local venues in the center complete the experience with the regional gastronomic offerings of the Vinschgau Valley.
The Glurnser Laubenmärkte are now well-known and appreciated throughout the valley: each market has a different theme and takes place at regular intervals throughout the season. The Flower and Gardening Market is its opening, an event that combines the historical commercial vocation of Glorenza—a city that obtained market rights over seven hundred years ago along the ancient Via Claudia Augusta—with the pleasure of an open-air market among flowers and plants, in the heart of one of the most evocative villages in South Tyrol.
On May 2, 2026, the arcades of Glorenza hosted the Blumen- und Gartenmarkt, the first of the season's Glurnser Laubenmärkte. Along the Lauben of the historic center, visitors found flowers, ornamental and vegetable plants, seeds, quality agricultural products, and crafts, perfect for preparing gardens and balconies for the start of the warm season. The day was accompanied by street music from music school students, entertainment for children, and the gastronomic offerings of the village's local venues, all within the setting of the medieval walls of the smallest city in South Tyrol.
Glorenza is located in the Upper Vinschgau Valley, in the Province of Bolzano. By car, it can be reached via the SS40 Vinschgau road (exit for Glorenza/Sluderno); from the A22 Brenner motorway, exit at Bolzano Sud and continue along the MeBo and the Vinschgau Valley road. By train, you can arrive at Malles or Spondinig via the Vinschgau Railway (Vinschgerbahn), then take a local bus to Glorenza.
Admission to the market is free. The market takes place throughout the day along the arcades of the historic center. For exact times and the updated program, it is recommended to consult the official website glorenza.eu or the social media channels of Glurns Marketing.
The historic center is pedestrianized: it is best to park in the areas outside the walls. Combine your visit with a tour of the medieval village and its walls, which are among the best-preserved in the Alps.
