Great jazz music in the heart of Mugello, between Vicchio and Borgo San Lorenzo
The Giotto Jazz Festival is one of the most appreciated jazz events in Tuscany and a highly anticipated date on the Mugello cultural calendar. Organized by the Jazz Club of Vicchio in collaboration with Music Pool, and supported by the municipalities of Vicchio and Borgo San Lorenzo, the festival enlivens the two historic Teatri Giotto in these towns near Florence every spring, set in the green heart of Tuscany.
For nearly thirty years, the festival has stood out for its high-level artistic offerings, alternating the great jazz tradition with more contemporary sounds: electronic, funk, world music, and exclusive productions that make the festival a vibrant musical laboratory. Over the years, audiences have enjoyed world-renowned performers, welcomed in the intimate and cozy atmosphere that is one of the event's hallmarks.
The festival is deeply rooted in its territory: Vicchio is the birthplace of Giotto and Beato Angelico, two of the greatest figures in Italian art. This cultural heritage is reflected in the spirit of the festival, which bears the name of the great 14th-century master. Attending a concert at the Teatro Giotto means immersing oneself in a setting where music, art, and landscape merge.
The Giotto Jazz Festival is also a perfect opportunity to discover Mugello, a hilly area north of Florence famous for its villages, nature, food and wine, and traditions. A spring season dedicated to jazz, authentic Tuscany, and great music shared together.
The twenty-seventh edition of the Giotto Jazz Festival brought the Mugello to life from March 18 to 22, 2026, between the Teatro Giotto in Borgo San Lorenzo and the one in Vicchio, with a program that intertwined tradition and experimentation.
The opening, on Wednesday, March 18 at the Teatro Giotto in Borgo San Lorenzo, featured Danilo Rea with the show "Sakamoto & Me", a tribute to RyÅ«ichi Sakamoto with electronics and visuals by Martux_m. Following this, in Vicchio, the funk of Spanish bassist Vincen GarcÃa (March 19) and the Neapolitan sounds of producer Bassolino (March 20) took the stage, both evenings followed by after-shows with DJ sets, the Giotto Funky Night, and the Theatre Club.
On Saturday, March 21, great jazz took center stage with the duo formed by double bassist Dave Holland and guitarist Lionel Loueke, while the closing on Sunday, March 22, was dedicated to the theatrical performance "Intorno a Mezzanotte", centered on the figure of Pannonica Rothschild.
Vicchio and Borgo San Lorenzo can be reached by car via the SS 551 and SR 302 roads from Florence (approx. 35 km). By train, the Faentina line connects Florence to Mugello with stops in Borgo San Lorenzo and Vicchio.
Tickets have varying prices per evening (roughly 15 to 30 euros), and a season pass for the entire festival is available. Reservations and information at the Teatro Giotto in Vicchio.
We recommend booking in advance for the most popular evenings. Mugello offers numerous accommodations, farmhouses, and restaurants where you can taste local products.
