The most famous spit festival in the Marca, 'Spit City' since 1956
The Giant Spit of Pieve di Soligo is one of the most famous gastronomic festivals in the Marca Trevigiana, in the province of Treviso. Since 1956, the town in the Prosecco hills has proudly held the title of 'Spit City', and every autumn it renews the tradition of the spit-roasted meat (spiedo allo spiedo), a star dish of Treviso cuisine, in Piazza Caduti nei Lager.
The heart of the festival is the spit roast (spiedo): mixed meats slowly cooked on a spit according to the great gastronomic tradition of the area, the result of the work of almost 200 volunteers from the Pro Loco Pieve di Soligo. The food stall opens in the evening, while on festive days, lunch is also served at noon, in a convivial atmosphere that attracts gourmets from all over the region.
From 2026, the Giant Spit will be recognized as a 'Quality Festival' UNPLI, a mark that the National Union of Pro Loco of Italy awards to events that distinguish themselves for gastronomic quality, organization, and promotion of the territory. A recognition that rewards decades of work and confirms the festival's role as an ambassador of Treviso cuisine.
Pieve di Soligo, the town of Andrea Zanzotto, is located in the heart of the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene Prosecco Hills, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Giant Spit is an opportunity to combine the great spit roast tradition with the local wines, in one of the most evocative landscapes of the Veneto region.
The 2026 edition, the seventieth, of the Giant Spit of Pieve di Soligo will be the first to bear the recognition of 'Quality Festival' UNPLI. As tradition dictates, the event will take place over three weekends between late September and mid-October in Piazza Caduti nei Lager, with the nearly 200 Pro Loco volunteers busy preparing the spit roast. The food stall will be open from 7:00 PM and lunches will be served on festive days. The exact dates are published by the Pro Loco closer to the event.
The detailed 2026 schedule will be announced by Pro Loco Pieve di Soligo. The festival traditionally follows this structure over three weekends between late September and mid-October:
