The Gastronomic Festival of Cutrofiano

The Gastronomic Festival is one of the most anticipated summer events in Cutrofiano, a town in the Salento region, in the province of Lecce, in the heart of Puglia. Every year, during the second half of August, the town transforms into a large open-air restaurant: food stalls set up along the streets and squares offer traditional Salento specialties, while live music keeps the evenings going until late at night.

The flavors of Salento

The festival is above all a journey into the peasant cuisine of Salento, characterized by simple and genuine ingredients. Among the dishes to sample are handmade pasta, such as orecchiette and sagne 'ncannulate, legume and seasonal vegetable dishes, grilled meats, and traditional desserts like the pasticciotto. Everything is paired with local wines from southern Puglia, in a culinary journey designed to showcase the region's gastronomic identity.

Music and conviviality

In addition to the food stalls, the Gastronomic Festival offers live music and entertainment: bands and artists enliven the evenings with concerts and traditional Salento folk sounds, creating a joyful atmosphere that attracts both residents and tourists. Cutrofiano, the town of ceramics

Cutrofiano is famous throughout Salento for its ancient tradition of ceramics and terracotta: as early as the 17th century, a large part of the population was dedicated to clay working for the production of pots, plates, and containers. This artisanal vocation is still alive today and is showcased in the town's Ceramics Museum and the historic Figulo Craft Exhibition, which enlivens the historic center and the Palazzo Ducale Filomarini every summer. Nearby, you can also find the evocative Fossil Park, created from an old clay quarry. The Gastronomic Festival is therefore part of a rich summer calendar that weaves together flavors, craftsmanship, and popular traditions.

When it takes place

The Gastronomic Festival is traditionally held in the second half of August, usually between the third and fourth Sunday of the month. Admission is free, and dishes can be purchased directly at the stalls. It is an excellent opportunity to combine an evening of great food with the discovery of the historic center of Cutrofiano and the beauties of the Salento area.
