The Canale di Tenno stop of the Garda Jazz Festival, hosted at the Casa degli Artisti in this medieval village.
The Garda Jazz Festival is the historic jazz showcase of the Garda Trentino area. Organized by the Scuola Musicale Alto Garda (SMAG), it spans two weeks across the municipalities of Riva del Garda, Arco, Nago-Torbole, Dro, and Tenno, in the province of Trento, within the autonomous region of Trentino-Alto Adige. As part of this touring program, the municipality of Tenno hosts a dedicated stop every year in the hamlet of Canale di Tenno, one of the best-preserved medieval villages in Italy and a member of the «Borghi più belli d'Italia» (Most Beautiful Villages of Italy) association.
The concert in Tenno is typically held at the Casa degli Artisti «Giacomo Vittone», a historic residence and workspace for painters overlooking the charming village of Canale. It is one of the most fascinating settings of the entire festival: stone alleys, arches, and medieval vistas provide the backdrop for an evening of exceptional live music. In case of bad weather, the concert is moved indoors to the Teatro Don Bosco in Tenno, ensuring the event always takes place.
The Canale di Tenno stop is more than just a concert. In the afternoon, the «La Scuola nel Bosco» (School in the Woods) educational path invites children aged 6 to 12 to discover the biodiversity of the surrounding forest. In the evening, before the music begins, the local committee hosts a dinner featuring traditional Trentino dishes, set in an atmosphere that recalls Canale's medieval past. It is a unique formula that blends signature jazz, nature, family activities, and local gastronomy.
The Tenno stop perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the Garda Jazz Festival: uniting great live music with the promotion of the Alto Garda identity. Each edition revolves around a theme, ranging from swing to contemporary jazz, and from ethnic and pop influences to the great African-American tradition, featuring both Italian and international artists. The festival is supported by the Trentino-Alto Adige Region, the Autonomous Province of Trento, and the participating municipalities, which recognize it as a cultural excellence of the territory.
The Canale di Tenno stop of the Garda Jazz Festival 2026 takes place on Thursday, August 6 at the Casa degli Artisti, as part of the 27th edition of the festival, titled «De Rerum Natura» (running from July 27 to August 9 in Garda Trentino).
The evening concert, at 9:00 PM, features the Quintaessenza quintet with the project «In The Name Of The Father, Daughters & Vino Bianco». On stage: Andrea Pimazzoni (tenor sax), Paolo Malacarne (trumpet and flugelhorn), Leo Dalla Cort (piano), Giordano Grossi (double bass and compositions), and Nelide Bandello (drums).
The day begins at 6:00 PM with the educational path «La Scuola nel Bosco», exploring forest biodiversity, aimed at children aged 6 to 12 (free upon reservation). From 6:30 PM, it is possible to dine with traditional Trentino dishes offered by the local committee «Rustico Medioevo».
The concert is a ticketed event with limited seating (pre-booking recommended on trentinospettacoli.it); admission is free for those under 18 upon reservation. In case of bad weather, the event moves to the Teatro Don Bosco in Tenno at 9:30 PM.
Canale di Tenno is a hamlet of the municipality of Tenno, in the province of Trento, located above Riva del Garda. By car: take the A22 motorway exit at Rovereto Sud, then follow the SS240 towards Riva del Garda and head up towards Tenno and Canale. By train: arrive at Rovereto station, then take the local bus to the Alto Garda and Tenno area. The nearest airports are Verona Villafranca and Bergamo Orio al Serio.
The evening concert in Canale di Tenno is a ticketed event with limited seating; online pre-booking via trentinospettacoli.it is recommended. Admission is free for those under 18 (please book by emailing [email protected]), and discounts are available for those under 27. The «La Scuola nel Bosco» path for children is free upon reservation. Full program details are available at gardajazz.com and gardatrentino.it.
As this is an outdoor concert in a medieval hillside village, we recommend comfortable clothing, shoes suitable for stone alleys, and a light jacket for the evening. The traditional Trentino dinner must be booked separately. In case of bad weather, the event will move to the Teatro Don Bosco in Tenno; always check the official festival website for any updates.
