About Garbatella Street Food

Garbatella TTS Street Food brings the roving flavors of the TTS Food tour to the heart of one of Rome's most beloved neighborhoods. Along Via delle Sette Chiese, near Piazza Sant'Eurosia and the Monsignor Desiderio Nobels gardens, dozens of street chefs set up trucks and mobile kitchens for four days of flavors, lights, and music. Featuring Italian regional specialties, international cuisine, vegan and gluten-free options, craft beer, and street-style desserts, the event offers free admission and the informal, convivial atmosphere of a local neighborhood festival.

A Roman stop on the TTS Food tour

The Garbatella TTS Street Food is one of the most anticipated stops on the traveling circuit organized by TTS Food (Mela SRLS) in the Municipality of Rome and the wider Lazio region. The formula is the tour's proven classic: a street or square is closed to traffic for a few days and transformed into an open-air gastronomic village, with food trucks, mobile kitchens, and stands set up side by side. In Garbatella, the event takes place along Via delle Sette Chiese, in the pedestrian section near Piazza Sant'Eurosia, and extends into the nearby Monsignor Desiderio Nobels gardens, where tables and seating areas are arranged.

The neighborhood that makes the difference

Garbatella is no ordinary Roman neighborhood. Born in the 1920s as a 'garden suburb' with its courtyard housing blocks, stairways, and arches, it retains a very strong local identity and a vibrant social fabric. This is the true added value of the event: street food is integrated into a place that already thrives on community social life, and the event naturally takes on the tone of a neighborhood party rather than a commercial fair. It is no coincidence that the event is designed for families, with music and lighting effects by TTS accompanying the evenings.

What to eat

The format features a selection of street chefsโ€”just over twenty in recent editionsโ€”chosen to represent both Italian tradition and international cuisines. Past editions have featured offerings such as:

  • Regional Italy: Sicilian arancini, Apulian bombette, Abruzzese arrosticini, porchetta and Tuscan pulled pork sandwiches, Roman fried pizza, and Jewish-style artichokes;
  • World Cuisines: Mexican tacos and burritos, Greek souvlaki, Spanish paella, Brazilian picanha, Indian samosas and curry, and American barbecue;
  • Special diets: Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes, clearly marked at each stand;
  • Desserts: Cannoli, maritozzi, donuts, cheesecake, and other sweet treats;
  • Drink zone: Unfiltered Bavarian craft beer, Prosecco-based aperitifs, and cocktails.

Typical atmosphere and hours

The days usually follow a consistent schedule: afternoon opening on the first few days (from 5 PM to midnight) and continuous opening on the weekend, from noon until midnight. Admission to the area is free: you only pay for what you consume, with street food prices and portions designed to be sampled in multiple stops along the street. The presence of tables in the gardens allows for seating, which is not common in urban street food events, and is one of the reasons why this stop is particularly appreciated by residents.

A variable date event

Unlike many festivals tied to a fixed calendar, the Garbatella TTS Street Food follows the tour: its timing throughout the year has changed several times, moving from late April to late June depending on the edition. Those wishing to attend should check the official tour calendar on the organizer's website, where seasonal stops are published progressively. Rome remains the city most represented in the circuit, with numerous stops distributed across the capital's neighborhoods.

Why it's worth visiting

For those visiting Rome, this event is a non-touristy and highly authentic experience: you step outside the historic center's circuits, discover a neighborhood that classic itineraries almost always ignore, and dine outdoors among the locals. For those living in Lazio, it is simply one of the easiest and most accessible gastronomic outings of the year.

Garbatella Street Food โ€” edition 2026

For 2026, the Garbatella stop is not currently included in the official TTS Food tour calendar, which has announced other Roman and Lazio stops for the current season. The dates indicated are therefore provisional and pending confirmation from the organizer.

At the time of writing, the official calendar published by TTS Food for 2026 does not include a stop in Garbatella: the tour has announced events in other neighborhoods and municipalities for Rome and the Lazio region. However, the inclusion of a new edition in the neighborhood cannot be ruled out, given that the event has been repeated over the years with very different placements in the calendar, between spring and early summer.

Those wishing to participate are invited to check the updated calendar on the organizer's official website or its social channels, where new stops are announced a few weeks in advance. The formula, if confirmed, would remain the usual one: four days of street food along Via delle Sette Chiese, free admission, and a seating area in the Monsignor Desiderio Nobels gardens.
