Five days of politics, culture, and music at the Gallicano sports complex
Every year at the end of June, the Gallicano sports complex becomes the beating heart of community life in the Serchio Valley. The Festa dell'Unità is a historic fixture of Italian political and popular tradition. In Gallicano, a town in the Tuscan province of Lucca, it has long evolved into a local festival open to everyone: five evenings of meetings, music, great food, and social connection, all with free admission.
The program alternates between public debates and pure entertainment. Debates bring local administrators and political leaders to the sports complex, while book presentations and conferences address current events and collective memory, ranging from the reconstruction of the territory after the great Garfagnana floods to international issues. It is a formula that makes the festival much more than a recreational event: it is a place to discuss, listen, and reconnect.
The evening segment is dedicated to live music, with concerts by bands and tribute acts that keep the stage lively until late. Over the years, the festival has hosted famous groups from the Italian scene as well as tribute bands, attracting a wide audience from neighboring towns across the Mediavalle and Garfagnana areas.
An essential heart of the Gallicano Festa dell'Unità is its food stand, open every evening from 8:00 PM. The menu ranges from land-based dishes to seafood, with specialties changing daily: pasta, risotto, fried delicacies, and traditional Tuscan and Tyrrhenian dishes prepared by volunteers. The dining experience has always been the main driver of the festival and helps fund the entire event.
Organized by the Democratic Party of Barga, Coreglia, and Gallicano together with the Young Democrats of the Serchio Valley, the festival involves dozens of volunteers and represents one of the most cherished events of the Gallicano summer. With bingo, games for children, book displays, and dance evenings, the Festa dell'Unità confirms its role as a meeting place for the entire community in the province of Lucca.
The 2026 Gallicano Festa dell'Unità offers five evenings filled with politics, culture, and entertainment at the town's sports complex in the province of Lucca. It kicks off on Wednesday, June 24, with the presentation of the "Albano Guidi" Trophy, a cycling race for children, while the evening program alternates between major debates, conferences dedicated to local history, and live concerts. The festival concludes on Sunday, June 28, with an aperitif and closing remarks. Every evening, starting at 8:00 PM, the food stand is open with a land-and-sea menu, alongside the book area and social activities. Free admission.
