In Gabelletta, a hamlet in the northern area of Terni, the Festival in honour of Our Lady of Fatima is the most cherished event of the year. Promoted by the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima, it combines Marian devotion with the popular tradition of the neighbourhood, involving residents of all ages.
The procession of May 13th
The heart of the festival is the solemn procession on May 13th, the day of the Our Lady of Fatima commemoration. The wooden statue of the Virgin is carried through the streets of the district in a procession that traditionally starts in the evening. Among the most evocative symbols is the maxi crochet veil, over ten metres long and handmade by volunteers from the parish workshop, which is placed on the statue's shoulders during the procession.
Rites, culture, and gastronomy
The celebrations span several days, with a three-day preparation period, solemn masses, and, alongside the religious moments, cultural and musical events and food stalls that turn the festival into an occasion for the entire community to gather. The Gabelletta Festival remains a living example of a neighbourhood festival in southern Umbria, in the province of Terni.
Gabelletta Festival — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Gabelletta Festival in honour of Our Lady of Fatima takes place from May 10th to 24th. The focal point is the solemn procession on Wednesday, May 13th, the day of the commemoration, which starts in the evening (around 8:30 PM) and winds through the district's streets with the wooden statue of the Virgin.
For the occasion, the characteristic maxi crochet veil, over ten metres long and handmade by parish volunteers, is placed on the statue's shoulders. The period includes the three-day preparation, religious celebrations, and, alongside these, cultural and musical events and food stalls in the district.

How to get there
Gabelletta is located in the northern part of Terni. The city is reachable by train and via the E45 and the Terni-Orte highway; the district is connected to the centre by public transport.
