Free theatre, music, and shows in Trieste's neighbourhoods
Fuoricentro is born from a simple yet powerful idea: to bring theatre and shows to where people live, outside the main stages of the city centre, into the neighbourhoods and outskirts of Trieste. It's a programme of free, high-quality shows designed for local communities, transforming squares, gardens, and local spaces into meeting points for culture.
The Fuoricentro network covers a wide urban and Karst geography: from city districts like Roiano, San Giacomo, Barriera Vecchia, Servola, San Giovanni, Campi Elisi, Gretta, Barcola, Melara, Altura, and Borgo San Sergio, to Karst villages such as Opicina, Prosecco, and Basovizza, as well as Valmaura. Each evening becomes an opportunity for families and residents to experience live performances right on their doorstep.
Fuoricentro is an integral part of the Trieste Estate programme, the major summer event promoted by the Municipality of Trieste, which enlivens the city with hundreds of events for three months. The local programming is curated by Hangar Teatri, in collaboration with local theatre companies like Teatro degli Sterpi, and represents the most popular and inclusive face of Trieste's summer.
Fuoricentro offers neighbourhood-friendly theatre, music, and family activities. It's a cultural choice that enhances the identity of the districts and breaks down geographical and economic barriers to accessing culture, ensuring that performances reach everyone, in every corner of Trieste.
The 2026 edition of Fuoricentro is part of the Trieste Estate programme (June 4 - August 31) featuring free theatre, music, and family activities in city districts and Karst villages. Curated by Hangar Teatri, the local programming enlivens neighbourhoods like Servola, Valmaura, San Giacomo, Borgo San Sergio, Opicina, and Prosecco, bringing culture close to home.
The detailed schedule of evenings, including show titles, companies, and venues in each district, will be announced by the Municipality of Trieste and Hangar Teatri in the weeks preceding the festival's start, as part of the Trieste Estate 2026 programme.
The programme traditionally involves the districts and villages of:
Theatre shows, music, and family activities, all with free admission.
Getting there: shows are held in various Trieste neighbourhoods and Karst villages, accessible by public transport.
Admission: free shows.
Accommodation: wide range of accommodation available in Trieste city centre.
