About Fuori Rotta Festival

The Fuori Rotta Festival is a widespread art, culture and nature event that brings Castelluccio Valmaggiore to life, a small village in the Monti Dauni area of the Foggia province. Launched in the summer of 2025 as part of the «In Valle» project, it combines urban and nature trekking, outdoor workshops and concerts in the evocative Bosco della Petrera. It is an invitation to discover the most authentic side of Puglia, made of stone, trails and singer-songwriter music, where slow tourism meets the rediscovery of traditions and the landscape of the upper Celone valley.

A festival in the Monti Dauni

The Fuori Rotta Festival – Art, culture and nature in the Puglia you wouldn't expect is a young event held in Castelluccio Valmaggiore, a village in the Monti Dauni mountains in the Province of Foggia, Puglia Region. Far from the most beaten tourist paths of the Gargano and Salento, the festival proposes a different way of experiencing the territory: on foot, slowly, rediscovering the stone, the woods and the stories of this corner of the Daunian Apennines.

The «In Valle» project

The festival was born as part of the «In Valle» project, curated by the Cooperativa Sociale Altereco together with Open Planet, funded by the Puglia Region through the «Luoghi Comuni» call for proposals and carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Castelluccio Valmaggiore, the Valle del Celone Museum and the Foggia section of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI). Its stated goal is to revitalize the Bosco della Petrera and enhance the environmental and cultural heritage of the village through educational, recreational and experiential tourism activities.

What to expect

The program weaves together three themes that give the festival its name:

  • Art and heritage: urban trekking in the historic center to discover the works of local stonemasons and the Byzantine Tower, a twenty-meter-high structure with a polygonal base that served as an ancient observatory on the Via Traiana.
  • Nature: loop hikes in the upper Celone valley and outdoor workshops in the Bosco della Petrera, led by CAI guides.
  • Music: sunset concerts and soundscapes ranging from singer-songwriter music to blues, and the enveloping atmospheres of the hang drum.

A village telling its story

With the Fuori Rotta Festival, Castelluccio Valmaggiore presents itself as a community that chooses culture and the environment as engines of rebirth. Admission to the events is designed to be accessible and most initiatives are free to attend, with booking only recommended for trekking. It is a precious opportunity for those seeking the inland Puglia, the one of silent villages, trails and the traditions of the Monti Dauni.

Fuori Rotta Festival — edition 2026

Following the first edition in the summer of 2025, the Fuori Rotta Festival is expected to return to Castelluccio Valmaggiore as part of the «In Valle» project. The dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: the festival has so far taken place during the summer months, featuring trekking, workshops in the Bosco della Petrera and sunset concerts. Information will be updated as soon as the calendar is made public by the Cooperativa Sociale Altereco.

The 2026 edition of the Fuori Rotta Festival in Castelluccio Valmaggiore, in the Monti Dauni, has not yet been scheduled. However, the «In Valle» project that promotes the festival continues its activities in the area with excursions and cultural initiatives. We recommend checking for updates with the organizers to find out the dates and program as soon as they become available.
