A selection of authorial contemporary circus in the setting of Triennale Milano
Fuori Asse Focus — subtitle At the Borders of Circus — is the review that every January Quattrox4, a centre for contemporary circus in Milan, dedicates to authorial circus. The venue is Triennale Milano (viale Emilio Alemagna 6, in Parco Sempione), one of the main cultural hubs of the Municipality of Milan (Lombardy). The project selects shows that lie at the margins of the discipline, combining circus techniques with puppetry, plastic arts, and autobiographical dramaturgy.
Fuori Asse Focus is not just a showcase of performances, but an opportunity for in-depth exploration: the program alternates performances, documentary screenings, critical discussions, and round tables with artists and scholars. It is the winter and "thought-provoking" aspect of Quattrox4's activities, complementary to the more festival-like Fuori Asse Festival held in September at the Anfiteatro della Martesana.
The review is aimed at a curious audience attentive to the languages of contemporary performance, but also at families, thanks to shows suitable for different age groups. The setting of the Triennale, with its spaces and the scenographic Scalone d'Onore (Grand Honour Staircase), offers a suggestive dialogue between architecture and the acrobatics of 21st-century circus.
The fourth edition of Fuori Asse Focus, titled At the Borders of Circus, was held from January 16 to 18, 2026, at Triennale Milano. The curation by Quattrox4 presented a selection of three contemporary circus shows that explore the margins of the discipline, accompanied by a documentary screening, a critical discussion, and a round table on autobiographical dramaturgy in circus.
The shows took place in the spaces of the Triennale, including the scenographic Scalone d'Onore, with performances scheduled across the three days.
Triennale Milano, viale Emilio Alemagna 6, inside Parco Sempione. Reachable by metro M1 (Cadorna stop) and M2 (Cadorna stop), tram, and ATM bus.
