About Frühjahrskonzert Percha

Every spring, the Musikkapelle Percha, the village band of Percha in the Puster Valley, invites the community to its Frühjahrskonzert, the traditional spring concert. It is an evening of South Tyrolean brass band music held at the Percha Vereinshaus under the direction of conductor Manuel Mairhofer, featuring marches, polkas, waltzes, and concert pieces for wind instruments. Admission is free, making it one of the most cherished cultural events in the Percha municipal calendar.

The spring concert of the Percha Music Band

The Frühjahrskonzert der Musikkapelle Percha is the annual spring concert that the music band of the small municipality of Percha, in the Puster Valley, offers to its community. It is a staple of South Tyrolean village life: the band presents itself to the public after months of winter rehearsals, showcasing the repertoire prepared for the new season. The evening takes place in the Vereinshaus (the community hall) of Percha, in the heart of the village, and admission is free.

The Musikkapelle Percha

The Musikkapelle Percha is one of the many music bands that animate the cultural life of South Tyrol, where Blasmusik (brass and wind music) is deeply rooted in the identity of every village. Founded on July 30, 1928, at the "Engelberger" inn, the band survived the difficult years of the Second World War—in 1943, all instruments had to be surrendered in Brunico—before being reborn in the post-war period. Originally an all-male ensemble, it opened its doors to women in 1984. Today, it counts about 32 active musicians (15 women and 17 men), is conducted by Kapellmeister Manuel Mairhofer, and is led by president (Obmann) Reinhold Zimmerhofer.

The program and atmosphere

The spring concert is designed as a musical evening open to everyone, including families. The program alternates genres typical of the Tyrolean band tradition—marches, polkas, waltzes, and overtures—with more demanding concert pieces for wind orchestra and well-known soundtracks. The band wears traditional costumes (Tracht), a key element of South Tyrolean identity, and performs before an audience of locals and guests. The concert is often an opportunity to introduce young musicians from the Jugendkapelle, the youth band that ensures generational renewal.

Percha and the Puster Valley

Percha is a small municipality in Trentino-South Tyrol, located in the Puster Valley near Brunico, at the foot of the Plan de Corones (Kronplatz) ski area. In this alpine setting, music bands are not just an artistic phenomenon but a pillar of social life: they accompany religious processions, patronal feasts, civic events, and, of course, seasonal concerts. The Frühjahrskonzert represents the moment when the community gathers to applaud its band and celebrate the arrival of the warmer season.
