The Frisa Festival in Nardò

The Frisa Festival is one of the most deeply rooted and anticipated culinary events of the Nardò summer. It takes place in Nardò, an elegant Baroque city in the Province of Lecce, in the heart of the Salento region. For one evening, the Sacro Cuore di Gesù parish grounds are transformed into a vibrant open-air celebration, filled with the aromas of traditional cooking, communal tables, and live music.

The frisa, queen of the Salento table

At the heart of the festival is the frisa (or frisella), a traditional wheat or barley twice-baked bread that is soaked in water and topped with fresh tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, salt, and oregano.
