The Serafico of Assisi's solidarity day open to the whole community
The Friendship Festival of the Serafico is the most anticipated solidarity event of the Serafico Institute of Assisi, in the heart of the Province of Perugia. The Serafico is a center of excellence that for over a century has welcomed, cared for, and rehabilitated children and young people with complex sensory, cognitive, and motor disabilities. Once a year, it opens the doors of its park to the entire citizenry for a day of celebration, games, and sharing.
The event is not a concert or a food festival, but a true sensory journey designed to engage both adults and children. Through themed stations set up in the park, visitors are invited to manipulate, explore, and participate, rediscovering the value of relationships and encounters with vulnerability. Each edition revolves around a different theme, inspired by the spirituality of Saint Francis and the message of the Canticle of the Creatures.
The Friendship Festival is more than an event: it is a cultural gesture that shifts the perspective on disability, showcasing the hidden potential of every person. In Assisi, a city symbolic of welcome and fraternity, this day takes on a special meaning, intertwining with the celebrations of the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis. Admission is free, and the invitation is extended to families, schools, associations, and anyone who wants to spend a different afternoon.
For the 2026 edition, the Friendship Festival chooses the theme 'Let's Transform', inspired by the symbolic journey of a grain of wheat, from sowing to shared bread, in dialogue with Franciscan spirituality and the Serafico's mission to bring out the hidden potential of each person.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 4:00 PM, in the institute's park. Free admission.
The journey is divided into five experiential stations set up in the park, retracing the transformation of wheat into bread:
The Serafico Institute is located in Assisi (PG), easily reachable by car from the SS75 and the Perugia-Bettolle junction. The Assisi-Santa Maria degli Angeli train station is a few kilometers away, with bus connections to the center.
Free admission, open to the entire community. The festival begins in the afternoon.
