Three nights of flavor featuring fried pizza and craft beer in the medieval village of Acciano
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Fried Pizza and Craft Beer Festival is a culinary event that transforms the village of Acciano, in the province of L'Aquila, into the heart of inland Abruzzo every summer. Organized by the Achillopoli Cultural Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Acciano, the event takes place over three nights in mid-August and attracts visitors from across the Aterno Valley and beyond.
The festival's signature dish is fried pizza, prepared fresh according to the village's traditional recipe. It is offered in numerous varieties to suit every palate: from the classic version to mozzarella and tomato, the tricolore with speck, arugula, and Grana cheese, and even indulgent sweet versions with sugar or Nutella. Alongside the fried pizza, food stalls serve french fries, grilled sausages, and arrosticini, the true staples of Abruzzese popular cuisine.
Complementing the culinary offerings are the craft beers from the Birrificio Aquilano ANBRA, an award-winning local brewery: from blonde Lager to Weizen, Special Red, the dark Black Diamond, and IPA. It is a pairing designed to enhance the bold flavors of the fried pizza and traditional dishes.
Every evening, the festival is accompanied by live music and DJ sets, featuring toasts and dancing under the stars. Stalls typically open at 7:30 PM at the Aia Comunale on Via della Montagna, a panoramic space overlooking the peaks of the Sirente, located within the Sirente-Velino Regional Natural Park.
The festival is also the perfect opportunity to explore Acciano, a fortified village perched on a rocky spur of the Aterno Valley, with its historic center enclosed by ancient walls, a watchtower, and historic churches. Admission is free and ample parking is available, making the event ideal for an evening with family or friends to discover the authentic flavors of Abruzzo.
