Signature jazz music lighting up the summer in Mesagne
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Born in 2012 from the initiative of the Lydian APS association, the Freedom Jazz Festival has become one of the most anticipated musical events in Mesagne, an art town in the Province of Brindisi, Puglia. The formula is clear and generous: bringing original projects and artists capable of engaging with the international scene to the historic center, along a path where Mediterranean roots and contemporary research coexist.
The festival's summer heart beats outdoors, in the city's most evocative spots: the atrium of the Norman-Swabian Castle, the scenic Piazza Orsini del Balzo, and the greenery of Parco Potì. Here, on July and August evenings, free concerts alternate, ranging from classic jazz to the most daring contaminations, with the goal of making great music accessible to everyone.
What distinguishes the Freedom Jazz Festival from traditional festivals is the presence of artistic residencies: young musicians and orchestral ensembles work side-by-side for days with prominent special guests, in an intensive creative process that culminates in a public performance. This is the case with the Freedom Extensive orchestra, a group that gathers numerous instrumentalists around leading names in Italian and European jazz.
The Young Wild Jazz section, hosted at Parco Potì, is dedicated to emerging groups and the new generation of the Apulian scene: a precious opportunity to introduce the public to fresh and experimental projects, in line with the educational vocation of the Lydian association.
The festival lives in two moments of the year: the summer outdoor festival is accompanied by a winter edition, which brings music to the city's theaters between December and January, such as the Teatro Shalom, with masterclasses, residencies open to the public, and evening concerts. A way to keep the flame of jazz in Mesagne burning all year round.
Realized in collaboration with the Municipality of Mesagne and with the support of Puglia Culture, the Freedom Jazz Festival is much more than a simple concert series: it is a cultural project that intertwines education, territory promotion, and a passion for music, contributing to making the Brindisi Salento a small capital of jazz.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Freedom Jazz Festival in Mesagne have not yet been announced by the Lydian APS association. Based on previous years, the summer festival usually takes place between July and August, with free outdoor concerts in Piazza Orsini del Balzo, in the Castle atrium, and at Parco Potì, accompanied by the usual artistic residencies. To find out dates, artists, and ticket availability as soon as they are released, it is recommended to follow the association's official channels (e-mail [email protected], Instagram freedom_jazzfestival).
