A travelling concert series through the villages of Palazzuolo sul Senio
Frazioni di Palazzuolo in Musica is a travelling concert series held throughout the territory of Palazzuolo sul Senio, a charming village in the Alto Mugello area near Florence, bordering the Romagna region. The concept is simple yet captivating: to take great music beyond the main town and into the smaller, more evocative hamlets, transforming squares, parks, and market areas into open-air stages nestled in the nature of the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines.
The festival consists of four free-entry afternoon events, designed to bring together residents, hikers, and visitors for moments of celebration and community. Each concert takes place in a different hamlet, showcasing the unique character of the local squares and meeting points.
The programme features a variety of ensembles and genres: from youth big bands and chamber ensembles to large combined marching bands, with repertoires ranging from modern pop and traditional marches to famous arrangements and original compositions for wind bands.
More than just a series of concerts, Frazioni di Palazzuolo in Musica is an opportunity to rediscover the villages of the Alto Mugello and enjoy the convivial atmosphere typical of local village festivals. At some stops, the music is accompanied by refreshments featuring local products and dishes, such as traditional fried pizzas served in the mid-afternoon, completing the day in a relaxed, family-friendly setting.
The festival is promoted and organized by the Banda Musicale Giulio Savoi, a historic institution and the heart of Palazzuolo's musical life, which renews the bond between music and the local area every year by involving ensembles from both within and outside the province.
The concerts are held in the hamlets of Palazzuolo sul Senio (Misileo, Casetta di Tiara, the Faggiola area of Quadalto, and other local villages) on Sundays during spring, typically between April and May, starting at 4:00 PM. In case of bad weather, events may be cancelled or postponed. Participation is free: a perfect occasion to combine a walk in the Tuscan Apennines with an afternoon of great music.
The third edition took place over four Sunday afternoons, starting at 4:00 PM with free admission in the hamlets of Palazzuolo sul Senio.
The festival was organized by the Banda Musicale Giulio Savoi.
