The largest Christmas market in the Castelli Romani area
Twenty kilometers from Rome, Frascati has always been the favorite destination for Romans looking for a day trip. During the Advent season, this city in the province of Rome, located in the heart of the Castelli Romani, changes its look: the Frascati Christmas Village takes over the Passeggiata di Villa Vittorio Veneto, Piazza Roma, Piazza San Pietro, and Piazza del Mercato with festive lights, music, and the scent of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts. It is currently the largest and most visited Christmas market in the Tusculan area.
The heart of the village is the Passeggiata belvedere, where about thirty illuminated wooden chalets are set up, dedicated to local gastronomic and commercial products. You will find handicrafts, Christmas decorations, gift ideas, sweets, and local specialties, from Castelli wines to cheeses, and from porchetta to traditional Roman biscuits. At dusk, the view from the belvedere over the Roman countryside and Rome itself is one of the most photographed scenes of the event.
The village is more than just a market. In Piazza Roma, the historic carousel spins, accompanied by a small train that takes families through the historic center. In Piazza San Pietro, in front of the Cathedral, an ice skating rink is set up, usually open until January 6th: it is the attraction that draws the most teenagers and families from neighboring towns, from Grottaferrata to Monte Porzio Catone, and from Marino to Rocca di Papa.
Every year, the Municipality of Frascati builds a month-long program around the village, featuring choir and band concerts, entertainment shows, film screenings, neighborhood bingo games, and charity events. The Scuderie Aldobrandini, the Bishop's Palace, and the Cathedral of San Pietro host exhibitions and displays of nativity scenes, while New Year's Eve is celebrated in the square with the traditional Frascati Festival.
The Christmas Village has the merit of combining two experiences: a visit to a Tusculan city of art, with its patrician villas and cellars where you can drink Frascati DOC wine, and the Nordic atmosphere of Advent markets. It is easily accessible by train from Rome Termini, allowing you to spend the entire day among traditional taverns, wine cellars, and wooden chalets without needing a car.
The weekends in December, especially the Immaculate Conception weekend, are the most crowded: those looking for a quieter atmosphere should choose a weekday or visit in the morning. After sunset, however, the lights and the ice rink are at their best.
The village remained open every day from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM between the Passeggiata Fuori Porta, Piazza Roma, Piazza San Pietro, and Piazza del Mercato, with artisan markets, a traditional carousel, and an ice skating rink active until January 6th.
The program opened on December 5th with a day of Christmas cinema at Casa di Pia 2.0 and continued with dozens of widespread initiatives, lasting until Epiphany and beyond.
From December 5, 2025, to January 11, 2026, every day from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM: about 30 wooden chalets along the Passeggiata Fuori Porta, carousel and children's train in Piazza Roma, ice skating rink in Piazza San Pietro (until January 6).
By train: FL4 line from Rome Termini, about 30 minutes; the Frascati station is just a short walk from the Passeggiata. By car: Via Tuscolana or Grande Raccordo Anulare exit 21-22, then SS215; on weekends, city center parking fills up quickly, so it is better to use parking lots outside the center. By bus: Cotral connections from Rome Anagnina.
Access to the village and markets is free. Attractions require payment: ice skating rink (ticket includes skate rental), carousel, and train.
The village is open every day, usually from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM. The ice skating rink remains operational until January 6th.
