Festive lights and Christmas stalls at Parco Piazza Pupinia, in the Roman district of Torre Gaia
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Christmas Lights and Markets in Torre Gaia is the annual event that, every December 8th, officially opens the holiday season in this populous district on the eastern outskirts of Rome, in the capital's Municipio VI. The event takes place at Parco Piazza Pupinia, the green lung around which the social life of the area revolves, transforming the public space into a family-friendly Christmas village for the day.
The event is promoted and organized by the Consorzio di Torre Gaia, the body that has managed and enlivened the residential area for years. The date is no coincidence: December 8th, the day of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, traditionally marks the start of the Christmas period throughout Italy, when trees are decorated and the first lights are switched on. In Torre Gaia, this moment becomes a gathering point for residents, who meet at the park to experience the festive atmosphere together.
The heart of the day is twofold. On one hand, the lights, with the illumination of decorations that brighten the park and surrounding streets; on the other, the Christmas markets, with stalls offering handicrafts, gift ideas, tree decorations, local products, and traditional sweets. It is the perfect time to start Christmas shopping while supporting local exhibitors and businesses in an informal and welcoming setting.
Compared to the large markets in the historic center, the Torre Gaia event retains the intimate and convivial dimension of a neighborhood festival: a free, open-air event that enhances the sense of community and offers families in Municipio VI and neighboring districts a simple way to kick off the festive calendar together. For those visiting Rome and the Lazio region during the Immaculate Conception period, it is also an opportunity to discover an authentic, residential side of Rome, far from the tourist circuits, where Christmas is still experienced as a moment of connection between neighbors.
The event is renewed every year in the same location, Parco Piazza Pupinia in Torre Gaia (postal code 00133), and on the same symbolic date of December 8th. The detailed program for each edition, including times, is announced by the Consorzio di Torre Gaia through its official channels in the weeks leading up to the event.
For 2026, the Consorzio di Torre Gaia renews its annual appointment with the Christmas Lights and Markets at Parco Piazza Pupinia on the symbolic date of December 8th. The day includes the lighting of the district's Christmas lights and the setup of Christmas stalls featuring handicrafts, local products, and festive sweets.
The detailed program and schedule for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Consorzio di Torre Gaia through its official channels in the weeks leading up to the event. Official notices with final dates and programs for 2026 have not yet been published.
Parco Piazza Pupinia is located in the Torre Gaia district, in the eastern part of Rome (Municipio VI), near Via Casilina. Free event open to everyone, held outdoors in the park.
