Every year, between late November and Christmas Eve, the village of Colonna — the smallest municipality in the Castelli Romani, in the province of Rome — transforms into a sprawling nativity scene with Cantine di Natale. The event breathes new life into the ancient cellars carved into the tuff of the historic center: centuries-old vaults that once stored wine, now turned into intimate rooms overlooking alleys lit by colorful lights.

A Journey Through Craftsmanship and Tradition

The heart of the event is the craft market: along the narrow streets of the old town, artisans and creators open their workshops, offering unique, handmade items perfect for Christmas gifts. Nativity scenes carved from olive wood, ceramics, embroidery, works made from recycled materials, and contemporary creations showcase a level of craftsmanship that remains a vibrant value in Colonna.

The Gastronomy of the Cellars

In the cellars and along the route, there is no shortage of local gastronomy: traditional hot dishes, holiday sweets, and local wines accompany visitors for lunch and dinner.
