About Cantine di Natale

In the heart of the Castelli Romani, the small village of Colonna lights up for the holidays with Cantine di Natale, a market that transforms the historic tuff cellars of the old town into artisan workshops and tasting rooms. Amidst illuminated alleys, nativity scenes, workshops for children, and local gastronomy, the event offers an evocative Christmas journey featuring fine craftsmanship, traditional products, and local wines. A widespread, free-entry event that brings the smallest municipality of the Castelli Romani, in the province of Rome, to life.

Christmas in the Tuff Cellars of Colonna

Every year, between late November and Christmas Eve, the village of Colonna โ€” the smallest municipality in the Castelli Romani, in the province of Rome โ€” transforms into a sprawling nativity scene with Cantine di Natale. The event breathes new life into the ancient cellars carved into the tuff of the historic center: centuries-old vaults that once stored wine, now turned into intimate rooms overlooking alleys lit by colorful lights.

A Journey Through Craftsmanship and Tradition

The heart of the event is the craft market: along the narrow streets of the old town, artisans and creators open their workshops, offering unique, handmade items perfect for Christmas gifts. Nativity scenes carved from olive wood, ceramics, embroidery, works made from recycled materials, and contemporary creations showcase a level of craftsmanship that remains a vibrant value in Colonna.

The Gastronomy of the Cellars

In the cellars and along the route, there is no shortage of local gastronomy: traditional hot dishes, holiday sweets, and local wines accompany visitors for lunch and dinner. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the flavors of the Castelli Romani in an intimate atmosphere, between a glass of wine and a chat with the locals who inhabit the village all year round.

An Event for Families

Cantine di Natale is also designed for children and families: creative workshops, entertainment, games, and bouncy castles take place throughout the days, alongside concerts and musical moments that fill the village squares. The atmosphere is simple and warm, typical of small towns that know how to celebrate without the need for spectacle.

Colonna and the Castelli Romani

Perched on a volcanic hill just a few kilometers from Rome, Colonna has been tied to vines and wine for centuries: in autumn, the village celebrates the historic Sagra dell'Uva Italia, so it is no surprise that its cellars are also the protagonists of Christmas. Located in the Lazio region, within the Castelli Romani and Prenestini area, the town offers visitors a human-scale Christmas, far from the crowds of large markets and close to the authentic soul of the territory.

Cantine di Natale โ€” edition 2026

Following the success of the first two editions, Cantine di Natale is expected to return to Colonna for the 2026 Christmas season. Official dates and the program have not yet been announced: as per tradition, the event is expected to animate the weekends between late November and the days leading up to Christmas, with craft markets, gastronomy, and the historic tuff cellars open to the public.

The 2026 edition of Cantine di Natale in Colonna is awaiting official confirmation. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to return to animate the village's historic center on weekends during the Christmas period, with the usual route through the tuff-carved cellars, craft markets, workshops for children, and the gastronomy of the Castelli Romani territory.

Dates, times, and the detailed program will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event. We invite you to check the official channels of the Municipality of Colonna for updates.
