Franciacorta sparkling wines and the culinary excellence of the Pontine region at Villa Cantarano
Franciacorta in Villa is the annual food and wine event that officially kicks off the summer season in Fondi, in the province of Latina, southern Lazio. The setting is Villa Cantarano, a historic residence surrounded by greenery that, for one night, becomes an open-air lounge dedicated to the Lombardy classic method. The event is promoted and organized by the Associazione Decant with the patronage of the Municipality of Fondi and the Consorzio Franciacorta.
The concept behind the event is simple and successful: to bring a wide representation of Franciacorta wineries to southern Lazio and have them engage with the products of the Fondi plain, the Monti Ausoni and Lake Fondi Regional Natural Park, and the Tyrrhenian coast. The result is a journey where the glass is never alone, but always accompanied by a tasting: local mozzarella and cheeses, cured meats, gulf fish, vegetables from the plain, extra virgin olive oil, and traditional desserts.
Over the years, the formula has been consolidated and the number of participating companies has grown to over twenty wineries, featuring historic names from the Consorzio alongside smaller producers and emerging talents.
Franciacorta in Villa is designed for a select audience: tickets are limited, and in recent editions, the event has regularly sold out in the days leading up to the evening. Those wishing to attend are advised to book well in advance, purchasing tickets online via the Associazione Decant website or at authorized retailers in Fondi and the province of Latina.
Beyond the quality of the wines on offer, the event has the merit of having built a cultural bridge between two distant territories—the Franciacorta region of Brescia and the Pontine plain—and of having brought visibility to the historical and architectural heritage of Fondi. The public arrives from all over Lazio and neighboring regions, and the evening has become a ritual that unites wine enthusiasts, curious visitors, and local families.
Fondi is one of the most interesting cities in southern Lazio: it preserves a medieval historic center with the Baronial Castle, Palazzo Caetani, and the Giudea quarter, and is surrounded by one of the most productive agricultural plains in Italy, overlooking Lake Fondi and just a few kilometers from the beaches of Sperlonga and Terracina. A stop that is perfect for a weekend getaway, before or after the evening at Villa Cantarano.
On Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 8:00 PM to midnight, Villa Cantarano hosted the thirteenth edition of Franciacorta in Villa, promoted and organized by the Associazione Decant with the patronage of the Municipality of Fondi and the Consorzio Franciacorta.
The tasting trail brought together 24 wineries from the Consorzio, including 1701 Franciacorta, Antica Fratta, Barone Pizzini, Bellavista, Berlucchi Franciacorta, Bosio, Ca' del Bosco, Camillucci, Camossi, Castel Faglia Monogram, Castello Bonomi, Contadi Castaldi, Facchetti, Ferghettina, Freccianera Franciacorta, La Torre, Marchesi Antinori Tenuta Montenisa, Mirabella, Mosnel, Ricci Curbastro, Tenuta Moraschi, Terra Donata, Uberti, and Villa Franciacorta.
Accompanying the wines were about fifteen gastronomic partners from the area—including Locanda Ercole and Ristorante Riso Amaro—with dishes based on products from the Fondi plain and the Pontine coast.
The program included two free masterclasses with limited seating, led by Umberto Trombelli: "Our gastronomy and Franciacorta" and "Decant…ing our gastronomy," the latter under the patronage of the Monti Ausoni and Lake Fondi Regional Natural Park. Both sessions saw excellent public participation.
The limited-attendance event sold out in the days prior, confirming the constant growth of the event and its ability to combine wine culture, the promotion of Pontine gastronomic excellence, and the city's historical and architectural heritage.
