Classical music in the historic palaces of Fondi
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Fondi Music Festival is one of the longest-running cultural events in the municipality of Fondi, located in the province of Latina in southern Lazio. For over a decade, the festival has enriched the local summer season with a program dedicated to classical, chamber, and operatic music, hosted within the monumental spaces of the old town. The format remains unchanged: a selection of exclusive events held between July and September, with a focus on the quality of the performers and the natural acoustics of the venues.
The festival's historic home is Palazzo Caetani, a Renaissance residence overlooking Corso Appio Claudio, whose courtyard and halls have hosted piano recitals and chamber concerts for years. In addition, the festival utilizes other spaces in the historic center of Fondi, each with its own unique sonic identity:
The lineup alternates between genres and ensembles: solo piano recitals dedicated to the Romantic repertoire, voice and instrument duos, guitar concerts, and mixed ensembles exploring tango, flamenco, and Italian singer-songwriter music. In 2025, for its fourteenth edition, the festival featured the Duo De Amor with Annalisa Biancofiore and Cristiano Lui at the Cloister of San Domenico, the W l'Italia concert with baritone Michele Migliori and pianist Gabriele Pezone at the Church of Madonna degli Angeli, and the recital A Dream Called Romanticism by pianist Joanna Trzeciak.
The event is promoted by the Associazione Fondi Turismo in collaboration with the "Ferruccio Busoni" and "Sergej Rachmaninov" musical associations, under the artistic direction of Maestro Gabriele Pezone. The festival maintains a stable partnership with the "I Concerti dell'Accademia degli Sfaccendati" series, produced by COOP ART of Rome, which brings internationally renowned soloists to Palazzo Caetani during the spring season with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Lazio Region, and the patronage of the Monti Ausoni and Lake Fondi Regional Natural Park. This alliance ensures that classical music in Fondi is not confined to a few August evenings, but spans a large part of the year.
The Fondi Music Festival is part of the municipal summer calendar Estatissima, which brings together the city's main events between July and September: the International Folklore Festival, the Fondi Film Festival, the Midsummer Festival at the Cloister of San Domenico, and various food festivals celebrating the products of the Plain. Fondi is a city known for its fruit and vegetable markets and farming traditions, yet it preserves a compact medieval historic center, including the Giudea—the ancient Jewish quarter—and a network of noble palaces that provide a natural backdrop for the festival. Its proximity to the seaside towns of Sperlonga, Terracina, and Gaeta makes the evening concerts an easy addition to a holiday on the Lazio coast.
The festival does not rely on mainstream television stars, but rather on intimate listening experiences: the halls of Palazzo Caetani and the Dominican cloister have limited seating, ensuring minimal distance between the audience and the performers. It is a concert experience quite different from that of large summer arenas, making it highly appreciated by both residents and visitors traveling from the coast toward the Monti Ausoni.
At the time of writing, no official dates have been published for the 2026 summer edition of the Fondi Music Festival. However, the event is still active: during the spring of 2026, the festival supported the "I Concerti dell'Accademia degli Sfaccendati" series at Palazzo Caetani, with concerts in March and May.
The information on this page will be updated as soon as the Municipality of Fondi and the Associazione Fondi Turismo release the program. We recommend checking the festival's official channels before planning your trip.
