Four marathons in four days along the Forte dei Marmi seafront
The Forte Sea Front 4×42 is one of the most original running events on the Italian winter calendar. Established in 2022, it is held in Forte dei Marmi, a pearl of the Versilia region in the province of Lucca, and offers a formula that has few equals: four marathons in four consecutive days, run along the town's famous seafront, between the sea and the Art Nouveau villas of the Tuscan coast. The event is organized by ASD Club Super Marathon Italia, an association specializing in stage races and ultramarathons.
The heart of the event is a flat 4.2 km loop with start and finish in the Le Dune area, to be repeated as many times as needed to cover the chosen distance. With no challenging elevation changes and the Tyrrhenian breeze for company, the track offers a constant view of the sea and the iconic Forte dei Marmi pier, the town's symbol. It is precisely the combination of the four medals from the four marathons that ideally forms the design of the pier: a detail much loved by the participants.
The Forte Sea Front is not just for marathon runners. Each day offers three distances to choose from:
You can sign up for a single day or all four, adding up your times in the general stage ranking. Those who run the marathon for four days in a row effectively complete a feat of over 168 km in four days.
The event also comes alive off the asphalt. The evenings of the four days are enlivened by dinners, live music, and entertainment, with themed events linked to the holiday period (including the celebration of Epiphany with the 'befane' on the last day). Participants are awarded artistic medals, designed to be collected day after day.
Over the years, the Forte Sea Front has grown to record sell-out numbers, with runners from all over Europe and athletes arriving even from New Zealand. For Forte dei Marmi and the entire Versilia area, it represents an original way to open the sports season, combining sport with the discovery of one of the most famous seaside resorts in Tuscany, experienced in an unusual and quiet guise: the winter one.
From January 3 to 6, 2026, Forte dei Marmi hosted a new edition of the Forte Sea Front 4×42, the challenge that kicks off the year with four marathons in four consecutive days along the flat 4.2 km loop overlooking the sea. For 2026 as well, runners were able to choose from three distances each day (8.5 km, 17 km, and the full marathon) and run for just one day or all four, with a stage ranking.
First stage along the seafront loop, starting from the Le Dune area. Available distances: 8.5 km, 17 km, and 42.195 km marathon.
Second consecutive marathon on the same flat loop. Same three distances to choose from.
Third stage of the four-day challenge, always with the three distance options.
Last marathon of the event, on Epiphany day, with a final themed celebration featuring 'befane', award ceremonies, and the presentation of artistic medals.
The sum of the four days determines the general stage ranking for men and women in the short race, long run, and marathon categories.
Forte dei Marmi (LU) can be reached by train to the Forte dei Marmi-Seravezza-Querceta station, then by bus or taxi to the seafront. By car, take the Versilia exit on the A12 Genoa-Rosignano motorway. The nearest airport is Pisa (about 40 km away).
Registration is done online through the ASD Club Super Marathon Italia. Participation is reserved for adult athletes in possession of a FIDAL card, runcard, or a valid competitive medical certificate. You can choose a single day or the entire four-day event.
The event traditionally takes place in the first days of January, between New Year's Day and Epiphany.
