The LGBTQIA+ pride parade in the heart of Forlì
Forlì Pride is the LGBTQIA+ pride event that crosses the historic center of Forlì, the provincial capital along with Cesena in the province of Forlì-Cesena, in Emilia-Romagna. It is much more than a parade: it is a collective event that combines celebration, advocacy, and participation, capable of filling the city squares with rainbow flags, music, and signs.
What makes Forlì Pride so special is its grassroots nature: the event is organized entirely by volunteers, activists, and local associations, without institutional patronage and supported through crowdfunding campaigns, self-financing, and the support of a consolidated community. Among the entities adhering to the promoting network are local collectives and groups such as Collettivo Monnalisa, Rea Collettivo di Genere, Forlì Città Aperta, UDU Forlì, trade unions like CGIL and UIL Forlì-Cesena, and numerous other associations from the Romagna region.
The heart of the day is the procession, which starts from the center of Forlì and winds through the main streets to the university campus, where the celebration continues with the AfterPride featuring music and socializing. The route and meeting points may vary from year to year, but the arrival is traditionally at the Volume bar on campus.
Each edition of the Forlì Pride chooses a theme that serves as a common thread: a word or concept around which to build the political and cultural manifesto of the event. This is how Forlì Pride manages to renew itself and engage with current events, intertwining the reflection on civil rights with the festive and popular dimension of the parade.
In recent years, the organizers have paid particular attention to accessibility, providing sensory-friendly zones designed for those who need quieter spaces during the event, set up at strategic points in the historic center. This is a sign of a community that conceives the celebration as a safe and inclusive space for everyone.
The fifth edition of Forlì Pride was held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, with the theme FVTVRA: a word with which marginalized subjectivities claimed space to imagine a future of change. The manifesto reinterpreted concepts such as tradition, family, security, and victory based on collective experiences and lived realities. Hundreds of people animated the procession, which crossed the center of Forlì amidst flags, signs, and music, concluding with the AfterPride at the Campus.
Sensory-friendly zones were available for those needing quieter spaces, at the Cloister of San Mercuriale, in Piazza Morgagni, and at the Parco della Resistenza.
Participating organizations included: Collettivo Monnalisa Aps, Rea Collettivo di Genere, Un secco no Aps, Forlì Città Aperta, UDU Forlì, Libera Forlì-Cesena, Tiresia Media, Spazio Caracol, Rimbaud LGBTQ+ Cesena, UIL and CGIL Forlì-Cesena, and numerous other local associations.
The theme FVTVRA, the procession from Piazza Saffi to Piazzale della Vittoria, and the AfterPride at the university campus. A grassroots event, entirely self-financed and without institutional patronage.
Forlì Pride traditionally takes place on a Saturday afternoon in June.
The gathering and start of the procession take place in the historic center of Forlì (usually Piazza Saffi), with arrival at the university campus for the AfterPride.
By train: Forlì station is well-connected on the Bologna-Rimini line, a few minutes' walk from the center. By car: take the Forlì exit from the A14 motorway, then park in the areas near the center (some streets are closed to traffic during the procession).
Participation in the procession is free and open to everyone. The event is supported by donations and grassroots fundraising.
