The festival of Lucanian sausage in the Vulture village
The Forenza Lucanica Sausage Festival celebrates one of the symbolic products of Basilicata: lucanica, an aromatic sausage flavored with wild fennel seeds, pepper, and local spices, so closely linked to this land that, according to tradition, it gave its very name to Lucania. The festival is organized by the Pro Loco of Forenza, a village in the Vulture-Alto Bradano area in the province of Potenza.
Typically held during the summer months, the festival transforms the village squares into a large tasting area, with food stalls dedicated to lucanica and other local products. The evening is enlivened by folk music and the conviviality that characterizes the summer festivals of the Lucanian villages.
In addition to lucanica, Forenza is a land of wines and genuine products from the hinterland of Potenza. The festival is an opportunity to discover the village and its cuisine, in the Municipality of Forenza, in the Province of Potenza, in a festive atmosphere that attracts visitors from neighboring towns.
For 2026, the Pro Loco of Forenza will again host its festival dedicated to lucanica. The event is traditionally held during the summer months, around July; the exact date will be determined and announced by the organizers.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition has not yet been published; it will be announced in the coming weeks.
The usual schedule includes:
How to get there: Forenza is located in the Vulture-Alto Bradano area, north of Potenza.
When: in summer, typically in July.
Stalls: tasting and products for a fee; free entry to the festival area.
