A festival born from rural memory

"Fontechiari: Tradition and Peasant History" is one of the most defining events of the Fontechiari Summer calendar in the municipality of Fontechiari, in the province of Frosinone (Lazio). Now in its fifteenth year, the festival takes place in Colle Mastroianni, a small agricultural hamlet overlooking the Comino Valley, and is organized by the Forever Association with the support of the local municipality and community groups.

The core concept is simple yet effective: to bring the customs and traditions that shaped the lives of Ciociaria farming families for centuries back to life for three evenings in late August. This is not a museum-style reconstruction, but a participatory festival where residents themselves bring their grandparents' tools back into use and share their stories with the younger generation.

What to see in Colle Mastroianni

The heart of the event is the exhibition of agricultural tools and artifacts of peasant life: plows, scythes, sieves, barrels, looms, and household utensils are displayed across the courtyards and threshing floors of the hamlet. Surrounding this display are demonstrations of ancient crafts and storytelling sessions led by the village elders.
