The FIPILI Horror Festival is the event that has been igniting the autumn in Livorno, Tuscany, for over a decade, exploring fear in all its forms and nuances. Born in 2012 at the historic Kino Dessè, the festival has grown into a benchmark for genre enthusiasts, successfully uniting cinema, literature, art, and theater in one great celebration of thrills.
Artistically directed by Alessio Porquier and Ciro Di Dato, and organized by the cultural association of the same name with the patronage of the Municipality of Livorno and the support of the Fondazione Livorno, the festival takes place every October between the Cinema Teatro 4 Mori and the Cinema La Gran Guardia, two venues in the city center.
Cinema, competitions, and premieres
The heart of the event is the Video Competition, featuring national and international short films selected from hundreds of submissions, accompanied by screenings of horror, thriller, fantasy, and sci-fi feature films, often as national or European premieres. The competing works are evaluated by a prestigious jury that has included the likes of the Manetti Bros., Dalia Colli, and Federico Frusciante over the years, as well as a jury of young industry professionals.
Literature, masterclasses, and guests
Alongside the film program, the FIPILI Horror Festival hosts the literary competition "La paura fa 90… (righe)" dedicated to short stories, as well as book presentations, meetings with writers, and professional masterclasses. Over the years, the festival has hosted major names in genre cinema and literature, from Pupi Avati to Carlo Lucarelli, cementing its status as a meeting point for established authors and emerging talent.

How to get there
Screenings take place at the Cinema Teatro 4 Mori (Via Pietro Tacca 16) and the Cinema La Gran Guardia, both in the center of Livorno. The city is accessible by train (Livorno Centrale station) and by car via the A12 motorway. From the stations and main parking areas, the venues are served by the urban lines of Autolinee Toscane.
Tickets
Some short film screenings are free of charge; paid events cost approximately 5 euros (reduced 3.50 euros). Discounts are available for Autolinee Toscane subscribers and competition pass holders.
