The international beach polo tournament in Forte dei Marmi
The Figli del Vento Polo Cup brings one of the world's most fascinating and ancient sports, polo, to the sands of Forte dei Marmi, the pearl of Versilia in the province of Lucca, in the heart of Tuscany. The chosen setting is the exclusive Bagno Alpemare, the beach club owned by the Bocelli family overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea: for a few days, the beach is transformed into a beach polo field, with horses, sand, and sea creating a one-of-a-kind spectacle.
Promoted by the Polo Club Forte dei Marmi, under the patronage of the Municipality of Forte dei Marmi and the Italian Equestrian Sports Federation (FISE), the event brings together four teams composed of international-level riders, with athletes from various parts of the world: from Argentina to Switzerland, from Italy to India. It is an event that effectively inaugurates the Versilia season, opening the doors of the equestrian discipline even to those who have never seen it up close.
The Figli del Vento Polo Cup is not just about competition. Alongside the official matches, the program includes horse-riding trials open to the public, designed for adults and children and supervised by qualified instructors, allowing everyone to get a taste of the world of polo. Admission to all matches is free, a choice that makes the event accessible to both enthusiasts and families looking for a different day on the coast.
The tournament combines sport with the elegance and social flair typical of Forte dei Marmi: convivial evenings, a gala dinner, and special guests accompany the three days. The opening ceremony, in particular, is entrusted to well-known faces linked to the local area, while the final day hosts the Tanto di Cappello award signed by Borsalino, dedicated to the memory of Daniela Broch.
Seeing polo played on the shoreline, in one of Italy's most famous seaside resorts with the Versilia sea in the background, is a rare experience. The Figli del Vento Polo Cup brings together the spectacle of an international equestrian sport, the beauty of Forte dei Marmi, and the free opportunity to get closer to an elite discipline in an informal and evocative setting.
