About Book Festival

For an entire weekend in September, the Lido di Camaiore promenade transforms into a massive open-air bookstore. The Book Festival brings together independent publishers, authors, collectives, and cultural associations for a free event dedicated to the joy of reading, featuring book launches, author meet-and-greets, and children's activities right by the Versilia sea. An event that champions small-scale publishing and the local area of Camaiore.

An open-air bookstore by the Versilia sea

The Book Festival is one of the most beloved cultural highlights of the Versilia summer. For an entire weekend, the Lido di Camaiore promenade in the municipality of Camaiore (Province of Lucca, Tuscany) is filled with gazebos, stalls, and stages dedicated to the world of books. From 10 am until midnight, readers of all ages stroll among the exhibitors' stands with the sound of the waves as a backdrop.

A showcase for small-scale publishing

Founded to promote culture and support independent authors and small local publishing houses, the event provides a valuable platform for those who often struggle to find visibility in mainstream commercial circuits. Authors, collectives, cultural associations, and publishers can showcase their books and work to the public in an informal, convivial atmosphere that connects writers directly with their readers.

Author meet-and-greets and book launches

The heart of the festival is the small square set up by the pier, where literary presentations and quick, continuous meet-and-greets take place throughout the afternoon. Every exhibitor can propose a presentation or event to be included in the program, subject to space availability. It is the perfect opportunity to discover new voices, engage with writers, and get recommendations for your next read.

Children's area and photography project

The Book Festival does not forget the little ones: there is a dedicated space for children's activities, featuring interactive readings, games, and books suitable for all ages. Thanks to the collaboration with the EOS Immagine association, the event is further enriched by photographic and artistic contributions linked to the #ScattaLaVersilia project, which involves the entire Camaiore territory.

Organization

The event is organized by the Versilia Tourism Promotion Consortium and the Pro Loco Camaiore, in collaboration with the Nati per scrivere cultural association and the EOS Immagine association. Admission is free, making it the perfect way to combine a day at the beach with the discovery of many books to browse.

Book Festival โ€” edition 2026

The 6th edition of the Book Festival returns on Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13, 2026, on the Lido di Camaiore promenade, from 10 am to midnight. Two days dedicated to independent publishers, authors, and readers, with presentations, author meet-and-greets, a children's area, and the #ScattaLaVersilia photography project.
