The car-free day in Val di Fiemme along the SS48 Dolomite road
Fiemme Car-Free is one of the most beloved sustainable mobility events in Trentino. Every year in early June, the SS48 Dolomite road is closed to vehicular traffic for an entire day, transforming into a long, temporary cycle path: twelve kilometers free of cars connecting Cavalese to Predazzo, passing through the villages of Ville di Fiemme, Tesero, Panchià, and Ziano di Fiemme, all the way to the Predazzo Biolake. Launched in 2009, the initiative is now a staple of the Fiemme spring, attracting families, cyclists, and curious visitors from all over Val di Fiemme and beyond.
The municipality of Panchià, in the province of Trento and the Trentino-Alto Adige region, is one of the most lively stops on the route. Along Via Nazionale, you will find a succession of stalls, live music, and local culinary offerings: the famous fortaie (traditional funnel cakes), delicious yogurt-based breakfasts, sausage sandwiches, and street food prepared by local associations. It is a unique way to experience the village, reclaiming the streets and rediscovering the pleasure of getting around on foot, by bike, on rollerblades, or by scooter.
From 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the main road becomes a true open-air stage. Along the entire route, you will find:
The event is completely free and designed to be reached without a car: a free Bike Express service is available by reservation, in addition to the valley-floor bus lines operated by Trentino Trasporti.
Organized by the municipalities of Val di Fiemme together with the Val di Fiemme Cembra Tourist Board, the Territorial Valley Community, and the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme, the day has a clear goal: to promote a sustainable lifestyle, showcase the local area, and raise awareness among residents and tourists about the use of eco-friendly transport. More than just an event, Fiemme Car-Free has become a community festival that renews the bond between people and their valley every year.
The 2026 edition was held on Tuesday, June 2, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The SS48 Dolomite road was closed for twelve kilometers between Cavalese and Predazzo, with stops at Via Bronzetti (Cavalese), Spianez (Ville di Fiemme), the centers of Tesero, Panchià, and Ziano, all the way to the Predazzo Biolake.
Among the new features was the Green Quest: a passport to be completed by visiting the associations' stands along the route, with the chance to win vouchers for summer experiences such as hikes, tastings, and evening events. The free Bike Express service by reservation was also confirmed.
Early June, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The 2026 edition took place on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
Panchià is located in Val di Fiemme, along the SS48 Dolomite road. During the event, the main road is closed to traffic: we recommend reaching the valley by train or using the Trentino Trasporti valley-floor bus lines, or utilizing the free Bike Express service (by reservation), with departures at 8:30 AM and 4:35 PM.
Admission and participation are free. We recommend bringing bicycles, rollerblades, or scooters.
