The Carnival festival of the Municipality of Ficarazzi, featuring colors, masks, and tradition
The Ficarazzi Carnival, organized by the Municipality of Ficarazzi as part of the "Vivi Ficarazzi" event program, is one of the most awaited appointments of the year in this town within the Metropolitan City of Palermo, Sicily. For a few days, the streets of the center transform into a large open-air stage, animated by masks, colorful costumes, and the enthusiasm of children, teenagers, and families.
The heart of the festival is the masked parade that crosses Corso Umberto I, the town's main thoroughfare. The procession is accompanied by an allegorical float, jugglers, and stilt walkers who entertain the public along the entire route. The parade concludes in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II (Piazza Wojtyla), where entertainment, music, and the most joyful moments of the festival take place.
The Ficarazzi Carnival particularly involves local schools: costumes are often made by the students themselves using various materials such as fabric, papier-mâché, and foam rubber, and are inspired by themes of strong educational value, from environmental sustainability and respect for nature to healthy eating, with themed disguises representing fruits, vegetables, and seafood. It is a festival that combines carnival tradition with a sense of community and collective participation.
The typical gastronomic dimension of Carnival is not missing: between one mask and another, you can enjoy chiacchiere and traditional Sicilian fried sweets, while the air fills with confetti, music, and cheer. The event is designed primarily for families and children, in a festive atmosphere that involves the entire town.
Included in the "Vivi Ficarazzi" program, the Carnival represents one of the defining moments in the calendar of the Municipality of Ficarazzi, capable of attracting residents and visitors from neighboring towns. Every year, the festival renews a deeply rooted popular tradition, enhancing the historic center and public spaces of this Sicilian town.
The 2026 Ficarazzi Carnival, organized by the Municipality as part of the "Vivi Ficarazzi" program, reaffirmed the Sicilian town's carnival tradition. The festival featured the parade of masks and costumes along Corso Umberto I, accompanied by entertainment and joyful moments in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II, captured in videos shared on official social media channels. A new edition experienced by the community amidst colors, music, and celebration.
The parade takes place along Corso Umberto I and concludes in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II, in the center of Ficarazzi (Metropolitan City of Palermo).
The event is held during the Carnival period, generally between February and March. The exact dates are communicated each year by the Municipality of Ficarazzi and on the official social media channels of the "Vivi Ficarazzi" initiative.
Ficarazzi is located along the coast east of Palermo, easily accessible by car from the SS113 or the A19 motorway (Bagheria exit). By train, it is served by the Ficarazzi railway station on the Palermo–Messina line.
