The Corinaldo stop of the FOI Cittร di Senigallia, among the ancient pipes of the Callido organ
Every summer, the International Organ Festival City of Senigallia (FOI) extends beyond the coastal city to reach the villages of the Ancona hinterland: among these, Corinaldo, in the Province of Ancona, is one of the most anticipated stops. Founded in Senigallia over twenty years ago, the festival is now a travelling journey that highlights the extraordinary variety of historic organs housed in the churches of the Marche region, entrusting them to the hands of performers from the international concert scene.
In Corinaldo, the concert takes place in the Diocesan Sanctuary of Santa Maria Goretti, a place linked to the figure of the young saint and a pilgrimage destination. The Corinaldo stop is part of the celebrations dedicated to Saint Maria Goretti (July 5-6), adding a moment of beauty and contemplation through music to the religious services.
The true protagonist of the evening is the historic organ built by Gaetano Callido in 1767 (opus 35), restored in 1987 by the Fratelli Ruffatti company of Padua. Located in the choir loft above the entrance door, the instrument retains the typical 18th-century Venetian organ design: a 45-key keyboard with a short first octave, a pedalboard, division between basses and trebles, and a rich palette of stops (Principale, Flauto, Cornetta, Violoncello, Tromboncini, up to the characteristic Tamburo). Listening to it live means bringing back to life a timbre that has resonated within these walls for over two and a half centuries.
Promoted by the Fondazione dott. Leopoldo Uccellini with the support of the Municipality of Senigallia, the Diocese, and the participation of the local Municipalities (including Corinaldo, Ostra, Ostra Vetere, Serra de' Conti, Chiaravalle, and Belvedere Ostrense), and under the patronage of the Marche Region, the FOI is a series that intertwines cultural tourism and the preservation of organ heritage. Each concert has free admission, designed to bring the widest possible audience closer to organ music.
Included among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy (Borghi piรน Belli d'Italia), Corinaldo welcomes visitors with its famous 15th-century walls, the scenic Pozzo della Polenta staircase, and a historic center that invites a stroll before or after the concert. The organ evening thus becomes an opportunity to combine musical listening with a visit to one of the most fascinating places in the Marche.
