Greek and Latin classical theatre in the Roman Amphitheatre of Suasa
Every summer, in July, the ancient Roman city of Suasa rediscovers its original vocation: that of a place for performance. The InSuasa Festival di Teatro stages Greek and Latin tragedies and comedies right where audiences once gathered, in the Roman Amphitheatre of the archaeological park of Castelleone di Suasa, in the province of Ancona, in the heart of the Marche's Vallesina region.
Founded in 2017, the festival has specialised in works by the great authors of classical Greek and Latin theatre and in performances inspired by the myths and legends of antiquity. Alongside traditional texts, there is space for contemporary reinterpretations and experiments, which update the figures of Ulysses, Electra, Penelope, Medea, and the heroes of myth. Since 2019, the event has been part of the TAU - Teatri Antichi Uniti circuit and is supported by AMAT, while since 2021 it has hosted a section dedicated to the premieres of young productions.
The InSuasa Festival is much more than a simple review of performances. The programme is enriched by collateral activities that animate the entire archaeological park:
The setting is an integral part of the experience. The Archaeological Park of Suasa preserves, in addition to the amphitheatre, the famous Domus dei Coiedii with its mosaics and the Palazzo Della Rovere - Civic Archaeological Museum. Attending a performance here means merging the magic of live theatre with the charm of a place with two thousand years of history. For lovers of classical theatre and for those who want to discover a lesser-known corner of the Marche region, the InSuasa Festival is an unmissable stop on a Marche summer.
The tenth edition of the InSuasa Festival celebrates ten years of the event with three evenings of ancient theatre in the Roman Amphitheatre of Suasa, from July 10th to 12th, 2026. The 2026 programme is entirely dedicated to myth and the classical repertoire, with evening performances, training activities, and moments of conviviality in the archaeological park of Castelleone di Suasa.
ODISSEA, un viaggio ancora - Teatro Lanciavicchio / Teatro Stabile d'Abruzzo. Inspired by Homer's Odyssey, with dramaturgy by Stefania Evandro and direction by Stefania Evandro and Antonio Silvagni. A narrative reinterpretation of the Homeric poem told from the female perspectives of Penelope, Circe, and Calypso. On stage: Cristina Cartone, Stefania Evandro, Alberto Santucci, Rita Scognamiglio, Giulia Sucapane, Giacomo Vallozza.
ELETTRA - the performance dedicated to one of the most intense figures of Greek tragedy.
RANE - featuring the regional premiere of Aristophanes' famous comedy.
